Who knows where this site went?

One the sites I access most is Baseball Reference. I use it for everything to comparing Bagwell 2000 and Musial 1948 to estimating how big a joke Freon Deion will be when he joins the Reds in May.

Not for several days however. I get this screen which reads:

I’ve never seen this error before. Does it indicate their server is scragged? Are they now operating on a subscription basis? (That would tie in with ‘permission’.) Have they moved and not told me? Or is this some generic msg indicating troubles on my end?

Any info would be appreciated.

According to a Usenet source, they’re the victims of their own success. Their provider shut them down for excessive volume. They are looking for a new hosting facility.

I believe that is the same thing that happened to another one of my favorite sites, “You Can’t Do That on Star Trek,” which is also currently down.

Here you can read Sean Forman’s Letter regarding the matter. Sean is the owner of the site.

Thanks Zev. Forman runs a quality site and I hope he’s back online soon.

Strange. If they took it off the net you would get a message that says your browser can’t find the site.

A message like the one you gave usually indicates a copyright violation or something similar. I have seen it many times.
