This is where I take off my “noble” hat and tell you guys to get your fucking act together. I’m sick of logging on to your site and getting “Can’t Find Server” errors, extremely slow loading and other such problems.
These problems aren’t from my end. I’m on reliable, high-speed cable internet.
To your credit, this doesn’t happen about 80% of the time. The only reason I bother to keep my membership is because the site is a valuable resource. Otherwise, if any other site had such problems (over such a long time) I’d never visit it again.
This is the first time I’ve been motivated to write a post like this, but it’s not the first time I’ve thought about flaming the SDMB on this topic.
Others must have experienced this bullshit too. Time to say something.

The upgrade is do in with the ‘more better stuff’ we have all been waiting to see. I’m thinking hell might freeze over first.

Thanks for this. I got a new computer but still have a crappy dial up connection and I thought all the "cannot find server"s were partly my connection’s fault. Then again I do get much more "cannot find server"s from the SDMB than any other site, so I guess it is mostly due to SDMB’s wascally servers that like to hide from us.

Yeah, it’s definitely not your connection. I’ve got probably the fastest home Internet connection you can get (6-Gigabit fiber optic, still so rare that I always have to check “other” on surveys that ask what type of connection I have), but the SDMB still gives me trouble.
Actually, my connection is faster than the connections of 90% or more of the servers on the Internet, so I don’t see all that much speed increase when the bottleneck is always at the other end.

I subscribe to the board because I like it, but I am not so naive as to think that no one is making money off it. I have never been to a board that cost money except for metafilter and that was $5 for lifetime. $15 a year for the number of members this site has is a LOT of money. Plus they sell ads. It’s a disgrace for the service we get.
While we’re bitchin’, the thing that bugs me most is the 30 second wait between searches. Why? Because when I go to the Dope I usually have just been on a fast site. I push New Posts. Nothing happens. I assume I must have missed or something and push it again. Then I am told there is a 30 second wait before I can enter a new search. Ughh. Just give me back my first search then. But no, I have to wait almost a minute before I see if there are any interesting threads.
