This place is like a bad drug dealer. You got me hooked but you are never around when I need you. I am hooked on the SDMB but around 70% of the time I get “Web site not responding”. I keep trying and trying and I get it over and over. This really sucks. If its a thread with more than one page I can never get through the whole thing. This isthe only site I go to frequently that I have this problem. Whoever is running the server please get a bigger wheel for the squirrel that is powering this operation.
And the hamster resents being confused with a squirrel. Even the “hampsters” resent being confused with squirrels. That’s why they redirect you to the Cannot Find Server Message Board.
Since about 1 month after the new software was installed, it seems like I have problems connecting about 1/10th the number of times as before. There is just no comparison.
I’ve even been lulled into not copying my posts before hitting the “submit reply” button anymore…
Ah, but did you notice that I said I’ve been “lured” into doing this?
I usually do make sure to do a quick “copy”, but sometimes the Board is so, dare I say, dependable that I forget. It has come back to bite me a few times…
AFAIR, the SDMB goes down for routine maintenance every 3:30 AM CST (since Chicago is the site of the server, and Chicago is in CST, that does follow), and is usually up within 30-60 minutes after that. One person’s 3:30 is another person’s 4:30 (mine, actually) and another’s 12:30 (far west coast of the USA) and another person’s 3:30 PM (no idea … Oz, maybe?).
[nitpick]Actually, 3:30AM CST is 1:30AM PST, unless you meant Alaska ST, which is 12:30AM. But in a manner of speaking, the Hawaiian-Aleutian ST is the faaaaar west coast of the US (not counting American Samoa :)), and the time there would be 11:30PM.[/nitpick]
I don’t copy my posts before I submit. On those occasions when the board has gone down, I make a decision on whether to retype the post or let it slide. Usually, my decision is “fuck it”. You people have missed out on many a pearl as a result, let me tell you.
