Unbelievable, this was a fantastic story about overcoming racial prejudices and she gets fired for it.
Fucking nonsense.
No, it’s very strongly implied she’s talking about her current job. The video starts with text that says:
On July 25, 2009
Agriculture Secretary
Tom Vilsack appointed
Shirley Sherrod
as Georgia Director
of Rural Development
USDA Rural Development
spends over $1.2 billion
in the State of Georgia
each year.
On March 27, 2010,
while speaking at the
NAACP Freedom
Fund Banquet…
Ms. Sherrod admits
that in her federally
appointed position,
overseeing over a
billion dollars…
She discriminates
against people
due to their race.
Then we cut to Sherrod saying “The first time I was faced with having to help a white farmer save his farm…” So it gives the impression she’s talking about the first time she dealt with a white person after her appointment. I don’t think she ever says anything that contradicts that idea in the excerpt.
The tip-off, obscure as it was, was when she talked about changes in the bankruptcy law as being “recent”, relative to the incident of which she speaks. The law she is talking about was changed in 1986.
My impression is they don’t care when they personally stick their own foot in it.
I suspect they do care if someone else spins things and they get it wrong.
Sure they will spin and dodge and hem-and-haw and pretend it was all ok all along. Doesn’t mean they like getting bullshitted even if it is bullshit they like.
You know what? I can blame a snake for being a snake. Breitbart and Faux News deserve to get the third-degree over this, and I feel a certain disdain for those who dismiss this as “normal and expected” behavior from those scumbags. To hell with that! Call a villain a villain!
If you give Breitbart and Faux a free pass to churn out this crap just because that’s the sort of people they are, it means that you will be holding the White House to a double standard … they should respond promptly and effectively to true allegations, but should examine false allegations carefully. But of course, lacking a Magical Truthometer they will be unable to meet your standard, because it is untenable.
The RESPONSIBLE approach, contrasting to the one generally being promoted in this thread, is to attack liars for being liars, relentlessly and with as much vigor as you can, and to vilify those who willingly believe such lies as willing accomplices to the liars.
(Lefty site, but they ain’t lied to me yet…)
**Breitbart Feels Sorry For Shirley Sherrod **
Yeah, she does “mention” it, in the sense that it is the whole fucking point, you malignant douchebag! Sort of like Saul of Tarsus, talking about his donkey ride to Damascus, he fell off, and he “mentions” he saw something pretty unusual.
May lawyers feast on your flesh.
Breitbart will be fine. According to El Rushbo: “I know Andrew Breitbart. He doesn’t mess around with edits. I don’t know who fed him this clip. Maybe he was set up.”
So move along. Nothing to see here. It’s all the NAACP’s fault anyway.
ETA: That may not be a direct quote, but it’s pretty damned close … from his radio show today.
It’s weird how everybody in this story except Shirley Sherrod has suddenly become an expert on detecting potential setups.
[Aside] Anyone else noticing how suddenly famous Saul Alinsky is with the batshit right? [/Aside]
They won’t be able to fool Ben Bernanke, because the minute the cameras start to roll, he’ll scream “It’s a TARP!”
Hell yeah. Personally, I’d never heard of the guy until the righties started bringing him up.
I think it’s part of their strategy of late- accuse your opponent of exactly what you, yourself, are doing, so that they can’t accuse you of it. As another example, see how they’re now trying to paint the Democrat party as “racist”.
Nobody ends up looking well other than, ironically, Shirley Sherrod.
My favorite “sphincter closing discomfort” moments have been for Roland Martin who simplyWILL NOT ADMIT HE SCREWED UPin condemning her even when confronted by Sherrod herself after all is made public. He’s turning into Nathan P. Thurm, I half expect to see the cigarette come out.
Breitbart… goddamn him. What else can you say?
And it’s no surprise the liberals had no balls.
I don’t see where her attitude fully passes the smell test. She obviously had issues with white people and ended her example of personal salvation with a statement about steering the farmer to “his people”. I don’t see where her political soul has been fully baptized in the waters of racial neutrality.
While the full transcript puts her in a much better light she has some issues that need to be addressed. Her view of the world is tinged in racial colors that makes all her past decisions subject to review. Her statements about coming back to work suggest she knows she will now be under a microscope.
Breitbart. He’s an evil SOB, end of story.
The Obama White House is not so much cowardly as gullible. They’ve seen this guy’s MO before (ACORN) and they still bought it hook line and sinker. If they refuse to offer Ms Sherrod her job back, then they’re cowardly.
And let’s not forget Fox News, who happily flogged this story for 24 hours straight – you can’t call them gullible, though, because they don’t care what the truth is if it makes a good Dem-bashing story – and the rest of the network media, who might have ignored the worst excesses of Fox but is still happily following their lead of – now the truth is out – blaming it all on Obama and the NAACP while utterly ignoring the perpetrator, his motives, or his enablers (Fox again, and themselves).
That’s Admiral Bernanke to you.
Yep.
Show me anybody, black or white, who lived for long periods of time in the rural South, especially when she did, and says that they never had racist thoughts and I will show you either a liar or a saint, and probably about 1000:1 split between the two. The whole point of her story is that she had the racial baggage everybody had but moved beyond it. Malcolm X, MLK, and many others of different races are among the many who also realized the same moral that race wasn’t nearly as divisive a factor as the lack of money/lack of power/dealing with “the law’s delay” “the proud man’s contumely” etc. is a uniting factor, which also was what Sherrod was discussing.
You really need to read this thread. You appear to not understand the issues with any sort of clarity.
She didn’t end her example of personal salvation with a statement about steering the farmer to “his people”. That’s incorrect.
I agree. This guy would take a dump on the American flag if he thought it would help him score points about how evil Obama is.
