Simple question, and if I’m fast enough, topic 6000:
Who pays for the SDMB?
If it jams, force it; if it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.

Hehehe.
The Chicago Reader?
You know, that Rosenbaum guy in the ads at the top of the screen.
This sig not Y2K compliant. Happy 1900.
Interesting in that you apparently did post topic 6000 yet the url is 006054.html. I guess that might have something to do with the posts that disappeared during the January UBB upgrade.
I THOUGHT so! That Rosenbaum guy (and his pal Ebert).
Subliminally boring into our brains. But why?
Seriously, that single banner ad (which hasn’t changed in forever) can’t possibly generate the kind of revenue needed to support this board.
Maybe the moderators and administrators could say who signs their checks?

Beatle, I think the ‘yellow urine’ post got to 6000 first.
Who do YOU think pays for this?

I just checked the url. I was pissed on for 6000.
Nicky, they don’t get paid. Although, they do get an SD coffee mug.

Okay, so the mods and admins don’t get paid; who pays for the servers, the UBB software and licensing of same?
That’s what I’m trying to find out.

Sorry NickyLarson,
Didn’t mean to take your ‘6000’. Just happened - by accident.
Many apologies
I would guess The Chicago Reader allows it to exist on their server and eats the cost as a promotional expense. But I did visit their website during the time the MB was down and they were up and running, so I’m not sure. The only alternative source I can think of would be some Cecil Adams entity.
I bet the mods know; ya’ think we can get one to tell us?
We didn’t answer because y’al did it for us: the Chicago Reader.
And to correct some of your misinformation there, at the start of our crisis the entire freaking business went down, including everything at the Reader.
The SDMB was the last part of the business to get re-established, but it went on a separate server and had a software upgrade applied on top of everything else. All that takes time.
