Elwood and Joanie
This show just keeps getting more interesting.
I don’t watch the show, but according to the official cast page, Joannie is played by Kim Dickens. I can’t find an Elwood on that page, though, unless that’s actually “E.B. Farnum”, who’s played by William Sanderson, better known as “Larry” of “Larry, Darryl and Darryl” fame.
Thanks for the link, and I am shocked that Elwood is not on that page. He’s not Farnham. He’s a miner had the next claim along from the Eastern dude, made a toast something like “Here’s to the limber dick bastards we all are.” And when Joanie, who IS on that link, asked if he would like a drink with her, he suggested she couldn’t afford him.
I think I have the name right, and I think he’s been in every episode. I am astounded anew that he’s not on the page. Unless I’ve confused several scroungy looking miners making background cracks as all being the same one.
Well, they don’t mention Geri Jewell on that page either, and her IMDB page says she was in most of the eps so far. Maybe he’s just too minor a character to be noticed.

No, no Elwood. There’s an Ellsworth, played by Jim Beaver. Close?
I believe that’s the guy, though it’s a bit hard to tell, as the movie character has shaggy long hair and a full beard. Damn, I screwed up the name.

Ellsworth is indeed Jim Beaver. He’s in our Yahoo Deadwood group, an e-mail group talking about the show.
He didn’t mention it in the group, but when I checked at www.imdb.com, his bio says that he was married to Cecily Adams (Don Adams’ daughter); she died of lung cancer in March this year.
He seems to be a really nice guy, and he’s already settled one argument about whether he referred to Trixie’s black eye as a “headlight” or a “deadlight.” He loves the show too. He said he made it a point not to read whole scripts, just his part, so when he’d watch the show, it’d be fresh and new to him too.
Also in the group is Jennifer Bloom. She hasn’t had a speaking role yet, she was the Bella Union whore that Joanie kissed in Episode 5.
It’s great having people involved with the show in the group.
AuntiePam, I would be delighted if you would pass my compliments on to him. Really, he gets the best one-liners of any character in the series. And please express my shock and sorrow that he in not listed among the principal characters on the website – he certainly deserves it
His character is what my friend calls an “underachiever”. Underachievers are people who seem much sharper and articulate than their socio-economic role in society would suggest.

We’ve asked him about being left off the Cast & Crew on the HBO website. He said he noticed that too and HBO is working on fixing it. I think he’s the only regular who doesn’t have a pic on the website.
