I just discovered something interesting!

Yet at the same time, rather trivial. I would have posted this at MPSIMS, but due to content, figured it was better off in Cafe Society.

I was looking over the entry for the motion picture Superman and the Mole Men starring George Reeves at Wikipedia and noticed that one of the screenwriters was named Whitney Ellsworth, who later became a producer and story editor for The Adventures of Superman. My mind immediately made an association. As those of us Deadwood fans know, Whitney Ellsworth was the name of the character played by Jim Beaver. As many of us also know, Mr. Beaver is somewhat of an historian who has devoted much of his time to investigating the real circumstances behind George Reeves’ death.

Is this a coincidence? Probably not. I wonder if Beaver suggested Whitney Ellsworth as his character’s name as a kind of homage to Superman/Reeves? This sounds extremely likely.

Talk about MPSIMS material!
Your life must be even more boring than mine!!!

He used to post here. At least I think it was here. I remember around the time the movie came out, he answered a lot of questions people had. IIRC, someone on this board invited him from another board.

Yes, his username was jumblejim, and he was an unpaid consultant for the movie “Hollywoodland.” He posted in one of the discussion threads about the movie. Unfortunately, our ability to search the boards is presently curtailed, otherwise I’d find the link and post it here.

And, I’ve now found the link to the thread in which Jim Beaver posted. Here it is:
