Who really gives a fuck about Dan Rather?

Maybe this should be in the Pit, maybe not. And I apologize if this is somewhere else already, I looked though and didn’t see anything, so here I am…

But come on, “American Icon” or not (and I say not), who really can say their life will be affected for better or for worse because Dan Rather is going to be off the CBS Evening News?

It’s not even the journalistic ehtical question, I think it’s just a matter of pure, simple apathy. The media is burying us with goodbye Dan stories because he’s one of them, and thus important to them. Outside of other journalists or columnists that wriote about journalism, do you know anyone that’s making water cooler talk about DAN FUCKING RATHER?!?!?

Fuck Dan Rather, I’d rather watch Peter Jennings anyway… :smack:

Yeah, we’d all be better off if our newscasters were a bunch of insensitive, dispassionate boobs who didn’t give a rip about their colleagues.

Oh, and a little rule of thumb for ya–if you’re going to use cuss words in the thread title and the OP, the Pit is pretty much your only choice of forum.

You, apparently. Turn off the shiny box for a change.

Dan who?

What’s the frequecy, Kenneth?

As a fan of Battlestar Galactica, I give a frack about Dan Rather.

Courage

Yeah, I think maybe so. The tone set by the title certainly indicates Pit rather than Cafe Society, where we tend to be a little more polite.

Unless we are talking about Deadwood.

Just for the record, I don’t give a fuck about Dan Rather.

I too could care less about Dan Rather.

Can I add all the other ‘celebrity’ stories that I don’t give a flying whasit for: Martha Stewart, Scott Peterson’s sister, and for all I know Santa Claus’ uncle.

sheesh.

I just wanted to say that I read each and every line in this thread in my finest Dan Rather impersonation.

"Today SDMB members heard the evening news read without Dan Rather, leaving the community…

…*in shambles".

    • Two personal friends might get this inside joke.

According to this thread, this means that you do, actually, care about Dan Rather. Good for you! Very brave of you to come into a thread like this and point that out. Way to take a hit for the team!

I think Rather would, uh, rather that some colleagues would just be quiet.

So long, Dan. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy.

Wasn’t it Rather who, upon interviewing the Dixie Chicks about their wealth (only to hear of the relative absense of such), brought to widespread recognition the rather biased deals (and the resultant related issues, such as extortive prices for CDs) that are the rule within the record industry?

I can’t remember anything else he did at the moment, being, ah, rather young relatively, but if I’m correct, I appreciate his investigation.

So, anyone want to take a pool on how long it’ll be before the right-wing nutjobs find another “biased” reporter to demonize?

While not exactly a “right-wing nutjob” (I prefer to think of myself as a strong, noble, clear-headed and right-thinking conservative, thank you very much), I think the question is which of the many available candidates we will zero in on? Every network (and nearly all print media) save Fox is full of them. Rather was just the most obvious, obnoxious and long-lived.

As an interesting aside, did you see where Playgirl magazine’s Editor-In-Chief" outed" herself…as a Republican!
