Reading the post on updated video games reminded me of my favorite computer game of all time. StarFlight was made right around 1988, and involved creating a crew to man your spaceship and going around and visiting other planets, gathering minerals, alien life forms, etc. There were hundreds and hundreds of planets to explore. If a planet had all the needed characteristics you could recommend it for colonization and earn extra cash for that. There was a goal to the game which involved finding artifacts and discovering why planets were being destroyed by talking to the other races, and eventually putting an end to the problem. I cant remember all the details, I just know I loved the game, and wish today’s computer games would spend a little less time on the graphics and a bit more time on the story line, and the actual play of the game. What good are fantastic graphics when you can complete the entire game in 8 hours of play? I got my money’s worth and then some out of StarFlight. The game creators of today could take a hint from games like that.
