I think you misunderstand. They went to sleep and when they awoke it was several hours later and nothing was different. That can’t be right…
On a similar note I believe I have been the victim of some incredibly skilled criminals tonight. When I left my house, the TV was on (for the animals) and all of my possessions were in the spots that I wanted them. The back door was locked and I locked the front door behind me. When I returned a few hours later, the TV was still on, the back door was still locked and all of my possessions were exactly where I left them!
The only reasonable explanation unless you can convince me otherwise, is that someone (or many someones) found a copy of my house key, crept in quietly enough to not disturb the dog, and carefully enough to not let the cat out, did whatever it was they came to do and then left again, quietly locking the door behind them and without disturbing anything so that there would be no evidence that they were here. Really that is the only thing that could have happened.
Are you sure it’s really where you left it? I may have fell victim to the same criminals last month. Imagine my shock when I returned home to discover not only that my furniture was missing, but that it had been replaced with exact replicas!
As for motive, that’s irrelevant. I can’t explain the motive, as I was knocked out fast! I wouldn’t know what one came in their to do, once again, as I have repeated many times above – they could have come in to violate us, they could have come in to steal and didn’t find what they wanted – their criminals and have probably done this to many others. I don’t want to even start thinking about what happened during those unaccounted for hours. Further, the series of events corroborate with an inside job (that is, a person(s) with the incentive to cover up their actions to avoid bringing attention to the hotel and to implement security measures that allow enter to patron’s rooms) and clearly the possibilities are endless, who knows what could have happened. What I do have is an unexplained period of sleep for two people – who have been jet lagged under similar circumstances several times before and never slept 16 hours, its literally unprecedented – however, exposure to jet lag is not and therefore an out of the blue sleeping period of 16 hours is unaccounted for. That’s in itself a sign that something more than jet lag has taken effect here – regardless of the presence of other ‘signs’ of foul play or not.
At the very minimum, a reasonable person must entertain the possibility that some other factor could have contributed here to the unaccounted for period of time unconscious. Had we stayed in more secure accommodation, we probably wouldn’t have this problem today and the ‘what if’ questions would be answered. If something had happened and there was an intruder, all the evidence would be there to show for it the following day – regardless of whether this intruder attempted to cover their own tracks to avoid detection or was a random thief who was careless to avoid detection! We wouldn’t have to be plagued with the questions. So that’s my take home message for all of you. Wherever you go, be mindful and alert to your personal security; be aware of the need to ensure that you are staying in secure accommodation, whether that is in a hotel room, caravan, motor-home or friends home.

We already have two very plausible reasons (a long flight and a long period of sleeplessness); if I am going to entertain something as far-fetched as gassing, I will need some thing more than just 15 hours of sleep. That seems perfectly reasonable under the circumstances. When the reasonable man hears hoofbeats, he thinks horses, not zebras.
So now the story has changed, someone had to sneak into your room and hold a mask of chloroform over your face … and they didn’t apparently do anything to you.
If you had been physically violated, you would know. Unless you did tough sex while awake deliberately.
I have had chloroform before. Believe me, after enough to knock you out you do not pop awake feeling chipper. Even when controlled by a gas passer the after effects are nausea, possible vomiting, GI issues [it slows down peristalsis and can cause wicked constipation] heart arythmeas, dizziness and headache. That is why they had post op rooms to monitor people waking up from anaesthesia. Nowadays if the proper types are chosen, you can pretty much pop awake and go home in an hour instead of needing to be watched for 6-8 hours or more.
No, guys, they held a handkerchief over his face, and then administered a memory loss serum so he wouldn’t remember the guy holding a hand over his face. It’s clear as a bell.
So if you had been knocked out slowly, you would have known their motive … how?
These are the weirdest “evildoers” possible, because they are such a strange mix of comptence and idiocy:
They spend a bunch of money and difficult procedures to get chloroform or something to gas tourists; but then they go to cheap motels with little cash opportunity.
They sneak in and put a mask on two people and gas them expertly; but then don’t take anything - no money, no credit cards, not even the pass ports to sell them to the next Mossad or Al Queda group.
So now the criminals have spent a lot of money and time for nothing.
The OP, on the other hand, is paranoid safety consioucs enough to conclude this is a gassing, but doesn’t go to the police or embassy to report a possible copy-theft of credit cards and passport.
Did you notice any unsual activity on your credit cards afterwards?
Well, they must have known how to pick an idiot who won’t go to the police with his suspicions, and yet they didn’t know how to pick a tourist with enough attractive money to steal from? If they keep doing this to other tourist who also never go to the police or press (since there are no reliable reports at all about this) yet never take anything, they are simply wasting time and money, yet despite being so dumb, they never leave traces. As if they didn’t exist at all…
All those other cases of jet lag that you alledgedly experienced - were they also West to East, with no sleep in the days before? As others have already said, it makes a lot of difference for the body and jet lag in which direction you are travelling.
No, a reasonable person can only come to the conclusion that you are wildly paranoid and don’t listen to rational explanations.
So what would constitute secure accomodation in your eyes? Maybe next time, you should let yourself be arrested by the police, then you are under lock and key during the night. Or go into a sleep lab with cameras next time you have jet lag.

This is a standard paradox in the world of conspiracy buffs (FinnAgain has referred to such conspirators as “Genius Fools”).
On the one hand they are capable of masterminding the most far-reaching, fiendish conspiracies in absolute secrecy, sometimes controlling vast sums of money and unheard-of power. Then again they are supposed to make the most obvious, stupid mistakes such that ordinary folks can detail every facet of their behavior on conspiracy websites.
That’s what always gets me about the 9/11 Truthers - look, if I was making up something I wanted the dumbest assholes in America to believe, I’d have put a hole in the Pentagon that looked like Bugs Bunny drove a WWII plane through it. It would be the silhouette of a plane, complete with landing gear and Yosemite Sam as the tail gunner. Because I want you to think a plane hit the Pentagon! Why on earth would I leave it ambiguous?
