Who said that? Quote help please.

Wikiquote and the other sites I’ve tried aren’t producing the answer. I remember a quote that went something along the lines of;
“If you need a hero, you have diminished yourself in some way”*
at least that’s the closest I’ve got with Google.

I’d really appreciate if anyone can tell me the exact quote, or attributed source.

  • (from what I recall, the exact quote had ‘placing someone on a pedestal’, rather than needing a hero.)

Thanks in advance.

All I can find is this lady on deviantART who uses it as her sig.

Yep, I found that too.

She’s paraphrased the original - darn her to heck!

Well, I found it, if anyone cares. ParallelPam on DeviantART was closer than I was.

It’s from Sheldon B Kopp’s An Eschatological Laundry List*

and the exact quote is;

Thanks for your try though, Really Not All That Bright.

I remember that list. Someone made a thread about it here. I printed the list off and taped it to my locker for most of my senior year of high school. Some of those statements don’t go over well in a catholic high school, FYI. But all the teachers could get behind 41. You are free to do whatever you like. You need only face the consequences.

It’s printed in the back of: If You Meet the Buddha on the Road, Kill Him.

I always thought 33 was one to remember. “All important decisions must be made on the basis of insufficient data.”
