In a recent Hyundai commercial, there is this guy sitting in the driver’s seat, sunning himself through the car’s sunroof. The camera does a pullback and you see that the car is close to a ski chalet – there is snow and a ski run all around.
Camera then does a longer pullback and you see that the car is actually on the roof-top of a skyscraper – in a New York like city. Nice visuals.
All the time there is a rock tune playing with fantastic guitar riffs and slides. The music is very familiar but I can’t seem to place it. The lyrics go something like this:
There is nothing <riff>
<refrain> Nothing
<refrain> Nothing
<refrain> Nothing
Nothing is better
<refrain> better
Than freedom <riff><twang><twang><twang>
Does anyone know who sang that tune? Its very haunting. <homer> Dammn you Hyundai… dammn you all to hell</homer>
I will just say that by your description, it does have a passing resemblance to George Michael’s “Freedom 90.”
This is not to be confused with is earlier hit “Freedom” as a member of Wham!.
Thanks for the feedback… I was getting worried.
The tune sounds too much like a ‘Dead’ thing to be a George Michael. Ummm. what I am saying is that it sounds too good to be a GM…
I’ll try and find the tunes you mentioned, if I can, and report back.
I vaguely remember the commercial, and it doesn’t sound like “Freedom 90” by George Micheal.
Freedom 90 goes:
Freeeeeeeeeeeeedom
(I won’t let you down)
Freeeeeeeeeeeeedom
(So please don’t give me up)
Freeeeeeeeeeeeedom
I don’t remember the commercial, but your description of the song sounds like “Freedom” by Canadian guitarist, singer and songwriter Colin James. It’s on his 1995 Bad Habits CD.
That is right! Colin James. Its gott be. I checked and it wasn’t GM.
Thanks A/V. I’ll check it tonight.
Love those guitair <don’t know the technical term for them> riffs…
