Who tokk the pictures of the Iraqi prisoners and why?

May be I am uninformed, but I have been curious to know about the pitures that are everywhere, of the Iraqi prisoners being humiliated by the American soldiers. Humiliating and torturing prisoners is one thing - I am not debationg on that. What I am curious to know is who took the pictures and more importantly why were they taken. I cannot believe that the soldiers who carried out those brutal and humiliating acts on the prisoners were totally ignorant that what they were doing was not legitimate. First there does not seem to be any valid reason to take such pictures which appear as if they were taken as mementos for progeny. Was SRG England imagining that some day she would show these pictures to her grandchildren with touching memories and wet eyes? I think not. Who in his right mind takes pictures, and create hard and real evidence, of himself carrying out illegitimate acts. It is like I go to the bank to execute a hold up, and make sure that one of gang shoots a video of all that we do!

Souvenirs. And there’s no guarantee that the Americans responsible thought their actions were illegitimate; hell, I’m still unclear on what they actually did, as opposed to what they threatened to do and what the talking heads are saying they did.

You can never underestimate the stupidity of the average criminal mind. And that’s just one.

Remember many years ago the teens that videotaped themselves vandalizing the neighborhood and shooting homeless people at close range with paintball guns? Adults do it to. I can’t find the reference, but I remember sometime in the early-to-mid 90s (I think), that this family went to their neighbor’s house while the neighbor was away and helped themselves to their stuff, stealing them blind and taking it back to their house. Part of what they stole was a video camera, and they videotaped themselves with the stolen merchandise, bragging about it.

I don’t know why - that’s something I think a psychologist would have to address, but it happens all the time.
