thought we could do that in the Prologue, and technically it is a shogunate age piece of technology(that’s why its got a repair stat)
I’m not sure yet, I realy liked the guns too, changes the concept, maybe I will get a pair of Plasma Tongue Repeaters, will have to read up on the rules for duel wielding weapons
If you go with the Righteous Devil Style, you can use one of the Charms to dual wield the guns with no penalties. That style was designed to make your Solar hero a gunslinger badass and it does it’s job well.
The only problem is that you’ll have to scrimp up some dots to go into Martial Arts as well as Archery and you’ll have to sink a healthy portion of your starting Charms into the style. If you go with the style, I’d definitely recommend to take a few points in Dodge or the Resistance Charms and armor route. Righteous Devil Style has no defensive Charms.
Technically it is, but that still makes it waaaay uncommon. And we will cover that in the Prologue, but your backstory is yours to decide. The Prologue is a time to walk yourself through the backstory and see if you like roleplaying the character you’ve created. I don’t make it up out of whole cloth
It also, from a roleplaying perspective, puts certain pieces of your past lives in place, as only a handful of people were ever taught the style.
I was planing on taking the first dodge excellency, Shadow Over Water and Seven Shadow Evasion,
I was reading up on the Righteous Devil Style, maybe I could start with one plasma tongue and finding her sister part of my reason for traveling to the westlands,
that way I can grow into the duo gunslinger role, starting with archery as basis and improving(remembering?) my martial arts charms as the story continues
and I still have to flesh out my backstory
Hey, those were my Dodge Charms. Get your own.

I don’t remember if it carried over into 2nd edition, but you can essentially teach yourself all the Charms of a style beyond the Form-type if you’ve gotten that far. Otherwise, I think you need a sifu to even get the next Charm in the cascade.
So I have to find a mentor too learn the style charms up to the form type?
oh, and so far my charms are something like this:
There Is No Wind
Essence Arrow Attack
Mastery of Small Manners
Seven Shadow Evasion
Shadow Over Water
Spirit-Detecting Glance
and First Excellencies in dodge, martial arts, social and archery
In order to stay resupplied with actual flame reagents for your gun, you’ll need at least Resources 3. Obviously you can help reduce the hurt by using essence arrow quite a bit, but you’ve got to make a balancing choice between using up your Essence pretty fast or sinking some serious jade into keeping enough ammo.
Normally I would say you’d need to find a sifu, but the backstory on this particular style specifically mentions Solars remembering it, so I’m lumping it in with Solar Hero form in that it comes naturally with time.
[Chris Rock]You don’t need no flamepiece control. You know what you need? firedust control. I think firedust should cost 5000. jade You know why? If firedus tcost 5000 jade there’d be no more innocent bystanders. [/Chris Rock]
My backstory is, for the sake of starting, an excuse to have any random piece of relic necessary. If we have met by game start… well… Friday steals things from people. He just doesn’t really feel like keeping them. Possessions tie you down.
I say this as a public service, I do intend to have at least one point of Relic, because the backstory suggests it likely, but have no idea what.
Sounds like an intriguing premise to me. Just don’t try to steal Dhorain’s sword
So heads-up, y’all, I’m about set to start one or two Prologues going today and tomorrow. Please keep in mind that this shouldn’t pressure those of you who are still working on characters, as you should still have plenty of time. I’ll start them running in what will be our main game thread, as well as launch a separate out of character discussion thread for player plotting
Okay, maybe I can write some real backstory up tonight, else I will do it after tuesday,
Don’t make it necessary for Friday to steal your sword. I’m kind of going Robin Hood here, except, well, with the ethical background of the world, it doesn’t work so well. So he’s a criminal. He steals things, but only from people who offend him with their actions.
Kind of like the Hannibal Lecter of thieves?
Mmmmm… chianti.
“What? I needed the essence!”
“What are you talking about? You’re not an abyssal!”
“No. I’m stunting. This guy is now part of the environment, and I’m interacting with him. Ergo, essence!”
OK all so I’m asking folks to head over to the official OOC thread to continue discussion: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=519294
