After a discussion a week or so ago on who’s played what RPGs, we started discussing JParanoia, a Java client-server applet to play Paranoia games over the net.
JParanoia can be downloaded from www.paranoia-live.net; as a Java applet it runs on both MS Win XP and Mac OS X with the latest Java software.
I’ve conducted some preliminary tests of the software, and it’ll run on my system. I’m writing up a Paranoia mission, and I am looking for six players to give the system a workout.
Who wants to volunteer for the mission? In Paranoia, it’s treason to refuse to volunteer for a mission.
Observers are welcome too.
Note that you need to remove the semicolon from the link to get it to work.
Thanks for catching that, Sage Rat.
The link is www.paranoia-live.net
bump for the Monday Morning folks.
I’ve written up the mission, and I’ve already made a second pass to rewrite parts that didn’t work. I’ve also rolled up characters and boosted the laser weapons skill; there’s plenty of room for players to customize the characters. (JParanoia comes with a character generator. It could use some rewrites to function as a character editor.)
I thought JParanoia was going to be like JDate, a website where Jews can hook up with people who then conspire against them.
Carry on.
While it is treason to know the rules, one must ask if the numbers one, two, or XP count? There was no five.
I rather like XP.
JParanoia’s character creator module produces 2nd. edition character sheets.
The client/server software appear to be chat software with specialized Paranoia features (ie. special font for Computer messages, automated handling of clone numbers), and can be used for any ruleset. Since JPCharGen produces text files, JParanoia can probably read XP character sheets that are typed in as plain text.
I’m not familiar with Paranoia XP, though I did post a few years back about it. I’d like to try that version at some point.
