In the song…
Wabash Cannonball
last verse
Here’s to Daddy Klaxton
May his name forever stand
Will he be remembered
Through parts of all our land
His earthly race is over
And the curtain 'round him falls
We’ll carry him on to victory
On the Wabash Cannonball
Since I could find nothing under Daddy Klaxton on Google, I tried “Claxton.” First site gave me the following.
The song was released in 1938, and though not recorded, there were several additional verses written which identified Daddy Claxton as the engineer of the Wabash Cannonball.
No actual person is known to have existed.
One clue to his identity may lay in this. The song was written and performed by Mr. Roy Claxton Acuff…
Sir Rhosis
Hint for anyone who cares to search. Try “Daddy Claxton” as opposed to ‘klaxton.’
