Who was that Musician? (History of Jazz)

From the second to last episode. A late 50’s quartet that was loud, brash, out-of-control, and what little I heard on that show blew me away. They had a young white guy playing a stand-up base, but I did not write down the name. Who were they? Who has listened to their stuff? While waiting for a reply I will look at all the bios on pbs.org in hopes of finding them.

If it was the part about the jazz that didn’t have to follow the established chord progression and rhythym, it was Ornette Coleman. The bass player was, I believe, Charlie Haden.

You just beat me. I was searching and I came upon it. Thanks!!
