I was recently in a used bookstore looking at newspapers covering the Apollo 13 disaster. Two papers were from Kansas City, and both made the story of the year share space with headlines and photos of what appeared to be a string of local bombings.

I ended up buying another souvenir paper, but now I can’t help wondering…what happened to the bomber? Was the crime ever solved? How many people died?

Googling around finds nothing but a mention from a book on terrorism that the Kansas City Police Academy was bombed in 1970.

Do any KC Dopers know (or remember) what happened? This would have been between April 11 - 17.
