I don’t think that lekatt was ever truly trolling but his habit of arguing vagaries and passive-aggressive insults to anyone with a slight bit of rational thought sure seemed like it at times.
We need to define terms here. Was Umkay one of the best or one of the worst?

Erm, yeah, maybe. Wally was a construct of his own. Seemed very real until, as I recall, some poster with whom he was sexting got too serious. Then he died. A classic move, and done with some panache. Not a troll until the end, earned him the status of He Who Should Not Be Named for a few years, but haven’t we all played dead when someone pushed too close? No? Not even tempted?
The jury is still out. By your description he was just a doddering old fool - not really a troll. A belief I think many here have. I on the other hand think he was a determined troll. I didn’t believe any of his bullshit at all. Maybe not the worst troll but he’s up there.

For a long time I believed Charlie Wayne was who he claimed to be, but I eventually revised my opinion. During his last few weeks here, he started a thread about the wonders of VPNs. That’s what removed all doubt with me. Coming from a guy who claimed not to know what an iPhone was, it was the equivalent of waving an “I AM A TROLL” flag.

There was a recent troll whose name I can’t recall, but he/she offered up links to streaming sporting events. Unsure of the provenance of the links, I reported the poster, and they were quickly banned.
