I don’t know if this qualifies as a troll, but there was a poster who went by several names (I believe one was Oat Willie), who figured out how to register usernames that perfectly matched existing usernames. So then he would post inflammatory crap under the name of a respected user, and had folks thinking it was that person. I seem to recall that this caused the powers that be to completely revamp the message board to avoid such shenanigans in the future.
They were all around me when I grew up in West Texas.
