And Mexican murderers and drug dealers. Don’t forget them.
The Black Panther case can actually be exploited very well if they want to. The Minnesota case, yeah, that more arcane, although could be damaging if it’s handled skillfully. Plus Perez’s views on disparate impact are fairly radically liberal and also hits on racial politics. The Minnesota case was Perez trying to avoid a SCOTUS ruling on disparate impact. As long as a court doesn’t rule against him, what he’s doing is sorta legal.
I suspect that Hillary will pick a VP based on who she wants to have around for eight years, and not based on some electoral calculation. After all, she probably rightly believes that if she loses this election, it won’t be because it’s a grindingly close election in which her VP pick mattered. It will be because some Syrian refugee blew up the White House, or because Russia releases her embarassing emails the day before the election.
Tim Kaine seems like a likely pick to me. He’s vetted. He’s boring. He’s…Biden 2.0. They’re both lawyers. They’ll probably get along.
Maybe if the Bernie thing isn’t smoothed over by August then she’ll pick Warren. But I sort of suspect that most of the #NeverHillary Bernie voters don’t know who Warren is and wouldn’t be brought around by her selection.
There’s a practical reason why she can’t choose Warren. That gives up Warren’s Senate seat to an almost certain Republican replacement. There’s no sense in making it even tougher to regain control of the Senate.
Only temporary. I recall that while the governor did appoint a replacement to Kennedy, a special election was held in a reasonably short time. It’s not like Ohio, where the seat could be lost for years if she picks Sherrod Brown.
Of course, the way things have gone for Democrats, a special election could be a Republican win. It was last time. Democrats are getting really lazy lately when it’s not a general election.
With big black negroes! The bigger the better! And meeeean lookin’! With those scary berets! Let’s exploit race! Fuck yeah!
Oh, except, the decision to drop the voter intimidation/New Black Panther lawsuit was made before Perez was even confirmed to the Dept. of Justice. Yes, during testimony he incorrectly said that political appointees weren’t aware of the decision to drop the lawsuit. But he isn’t even guilty of perjury here. The only thing he’s guilty of was being unaware of stuff that happened at DoJ before he started working at DoJ. That should make for a wonderful little ad.
Oh, but perhaps the argument is that the Obama administration, somehow even including Tom Perez before he was even a part of it, applied voter intimidation laws unfairly and that they turned a blind eye toward the scary black folks who wildly intimidated the fuck out of nice white people that fateful Election Day in Philadelphia 2008.
Except that investigations found that no actual voters were intimidated by the New Black Panthers in the majority-black district, and that the New Black Panthers had every right under the Constitution to wear their funny little hats in public. The only people who apparently felt threatened were the white Republican poll watchers that weren’t even registered to vote in that district.
There is absolutely nothing illegal or disqualifying about Tom Perez or his actions in these situations you’ve presented. But I suppose it won’t be beneath the Republican Party to grease up some big black dudes and slap berets on them for some late September ads. Glad you’re so excited for them to “exploit” race to get some votes. The Southern Strategy lives on apparently.
Please. The whole basis of Clinton’s critique of Trump is that he’s a racist. If you’re going to live by that sword, prepare to die by it.
So who’s the racist?
Anyone who takes advantage of racial divisions to win an election is.
Trump will be her VP
Wow – I’m surprised to see that you’d call Reagan, along with nearly every other Republican Presidential candidate from Nixon until now, a racist!
-
I think your notion that the whole basis of Clinton’s critique of Trump is his racism is wrong. There are so many other bases to her critique. That is nowhere *near *the whole critique. Or even the largest part of it. Or the most damning.
-
Ah so nearly every Republican since Nixon *is *a racist. I’ve always suspected, but it’s good to hear it from a native.
But still, why does Hillary need to prepare to die by the race sword, and what does that have to do with Tom Perez?
Any chance at all of picking John Kasich?
That would kick so much ass, but there’s no relationship between Clinton and Kasich the way there is between Clinton and some Senate Republicans. If she did pick a Republican it would have to be someone she really trusts.
She picks a Republican and hers will be the shortest presidency in history.
Seriously putting forward the idea of a Republican VP is pure fucking clowning. It’s simply not an option. Your most realistic fantasy is some DINO.
Evan Bayh.
You’re gonna vote for 'em anyway, aren’t you?
You misspelled “falsify testimony.”
Uh, as I recall, he voluntarily surrendered his law license AFTER the Monica Lewinsky affair, which has NOTHING to do with Paula Jones.
Which it won’t because - you know - Republican leadership.
