I am sure that “nemesis”, like “gravitas”, “oxymoron”, and other similar words which had their brief period of popularity will soon return to the obscurity from which it came, but for now it is riding high. A word that I would often go years without seeing or hearing, for the past few months has become almost unescapable. I kept a record for the past week (Sunday through Saturday); I heard or saw “nemesis” eight times! 3 times on the radio, once on TV (by a baseball announcer!), three times in newspaper columns, and once in a comic strip. Do I have a nemesis who can break my record of eight encounters in a seven day period?
I’m already up to four just from your post.

Sorry, I haven’t seen to word lately, outside of webcomics. But then that’s my preferred media, so it could be that I’m just not in touch.
Also, I don’t think I have enough energy to be anyone’s nemesis. It’s just so demanding. If you find one, though, I may be able to mind your hench from time to time, if you give me enough advance warning.
