Nah, he’s Tommy Carcetti. Vaguely oily and ambitious, but from the center-left. He’s the one who would jump on the bandwagon of opposing the evil real estate developer on TV to earn political capital on the one hand, but on the other might be quietly willing to exploit a legal loophole in a much more subtle and less-damaging way so he could expand the family winery operation across a county border or somesuch. I suspect he honestly believes in many of his issues, but he usually has his ear to the ground.
Again, Newsom is not Republican-lite. He’s essentially a bog standard California middle-of-the-road liberal, albeit oily and ambitious. He’s just not an unalloyed progressive.
Which is why he’d be the most likely winner after Trump (who automatically wins if alive, even if non compos mentis), as he’d be Trump’s VP and too much of a nonentity to threaten Trump’s ego. If Trump dies, he likely coasts to victory on the momentum of Trump’s personality cult. His lack of convictions would make him a great mouthpiece for the hard right, and more reliable than the erratic Trump.
Trump’s cult of personality is going to die with him. The only way Vance successfully succeeds him is if he’s the one to give the Secret Speech afterwards.
It was a publicity stunt. He’s more than demonstrated since then that he’s willing to throw any demographic under the bus if he thinks it’ll benefit him personally.
Could we please discuss the person you think will win, and not argue against someone else’s choice? Also, the person who will supposedly control the President is not part of this, so Putin is out. This is only about who you think will be President, like it or not, when the 2028 election is over.
Please respect the OP’s wishes and stay on topic. You’re in these hijacks often, @Smapti, and we notice. Pay attention to the actual topic. This goes for everyone, not just @Smapti.
Please don’t junior mod, even if we’re not available to respond to your flag right away.
I give less than a one percent chance of Murphy/Whitmer being the exact ticket.
But it’s a smart guess.
With low certainty, I think the Democrats will win the presidency in 2028. And if they do, it is going to have been a time for a change year. So if the Democrats are actually going to win, there’s a more than normal chance of them nominating a dark horse like Murphy.
I do not want it to be Newsom, but I think he’s the best at telling the public what it wants to hear from the D side.
I think the election will be Newsom vs Rubio. I think it will be close. I will be voting for Pritzker in the primary and holding my nose to vote for Newsom—all of this subject to change depending on what happens in the next 2½ years.
Nope, I think you’re absolutely, heartbreakingly, right. Everyone saying he’s dying, he has dementia, what’s wrong with his hands/neck/ankles, etc. are deluding themselves that he’s on his way out the door, health-wise. He has the best healthcare of anyone and they’ll keep him going at all costs. And he’ll keep a death grip (heh) on the office at all costs.
