Who will be POTUS after the November 2028 elections?

No, the question is who will be elected in the next regularly scheduled election, not who will become the next president by other means. (And Ford’s position in March 1974 would have been almost precisely equivalent to Vance’s position right now: the single individual with the highest chance of being elected president in 1976. But “some Democrat, but it’s way to early to know who” has / had a higher chance than either.)

I do think a part of the uncertainty is that the board as a whole represents a pretty narrow and frankly older slice of the population. Do any of the posters in this thread have younger family who have provided you with the attitudes of say the 18-30 year old crowd towards post-2028 POTUS?

This isn’t about blame, just wonder what counts as compelling candidate for either major party in the younger set, and if it’s sufficient for them to vote. Because on either side, it seems most of the angry mature voters are set in their trenches and not moving.

To be clear, and in keeping with the OP, I’m not asking about what should motivate younger voters, but what actual family members in the younger bracket are telling you about what they’re looking for in terms of POTUS/leadership post 2028.

If you ask the younger set, will they understand the question is not who they want to win, but who will win?

Right now, we have an extremely compelling president. You might be compelled towards him, or you may detest him, but those who profess neutrality are often hiding something.

And I think people are starting to get tired of compelling. So the next POTUS will probably be less compelling. Like Vance. Or Kelly.

I do believe in cyclical theories of politics.

This is the one sense that maybe it is too soon for AOC. Not because she is too young or inexperienced or a woman of color, but because she’s too exciting in a year where lots of intermittent Republican voters need to stay home – or, otherwise, the MAGA candidate wins.

I understand your legitimate concern, but that’s why I was asking if any close family had shared any information. I would presume that if they had volunteered it, it would be more likely to represent their actual feelings and reasoning, but self-reported information is always suspect to a degree.

Just trying to see if there was a wider demographic viewpoint available on the OP’s question.

Pam Bondi That whole stable of handlers and directors are not going to go to an unknown name. And JD is an unknown.

Yeah this is depressingly true. We need MAGA to stay home, but they will crawl over broken glass to vote against an outspoken Latina with socialist creds.
