Done. So now we can all get back to NothingWatch 2008, Round 1. CNN reported earlier that Obama met privately with Kaine and Kaine’s staff today, but of course, we don’t know what the means, if anything. Kaine said, “He visited with my staff just to basically say hi to them and thank them for all their hard work.”
I’m calling it right now- Obama’s VP will be Martin Sheen, who will promise to spend the next 8 years in character as Jed Bartlet.
While we’re waiting, this is really funny. 
So more details on the Richardson rumor… My source is tight with big mucky-mucks in the Puerto Rico Obama operation. Some of those folks are claiming that the announcement was delayed (from Wednesday) because there was some obscure rule about the governorship being up for grabs if the governor accepts the VP slot. Obama was apparently in Albuquerque Tuesday working on this.
Personally I hope it’s not true; Richardson might be a good guy and the diplomat that’s needed on the ticket, but he campaigns like a wet gymsock. He kind of blew his load with the vacillating between Clinton and Obama drama, and his post-nomination whining about the Clintons made him look petty and stupid. I did notice, however, that he has that nappy beard of his under control, as if he’s applied the Grecian 2000 and dyed the gray out…
The press is angling Biden or Bayh and all indicators point to one of those guys… but my source is the kind of guy who says crazy stuff that often ends up being true.

I just saw on Fox that Obama said he’s definitely made the decision, but that’s all he’s saying. Keep your cell phones near your beds tonight. I have a feeling we’re going to get a wake-up text.
All I can say is, if you and your friend are right, I’ll score it as a major scoop for the SDMB. Richardson was dismissed as a possibility long ago - at this point he only appears in the perfunctory last paragraph in most stories.
Generally I guess I’m hoping for a surprise, in part to justify this interminable wait, and for the reasons above I’d consider Richardson a surprise. And I also can’t shake a feeling that Bayh is a really lousy pick. I don’t know what it is, it just seems like a choice made only out of political calculation. Maybe it’s because he’s campaigned so hard for the spot, at least, in relative terms. Was it Stewart or Colbert who said Bayh looks like the picture you get when you buy the frame?
I’m actually surprised how many hardcore Dem operatives I’ve heard mention Clinton as the best choice. Sort of a Kennedy/LBJ deal, though one could argue those two hated each other more.
If Obama makes that choice, game over. This election is done and the Dems finally will win the election they were supposed to win, easily. It would easily be the biggest political story in a decade. McCain will have to conduct human sacrifices in a dress to get any media attention.
I suspect I’ll be disappointed, though.

There’s a joke in here somewhere, nothing the rhyme of “wake-up text” with “make-up sex,” but I’ll be damned if I can find it.
There’s nothing in the world as hot as an Obama wake-up text.
Obama would not say he if has informed his choice, which theoretically means I could still be in the running, because nobody’s told me I’m not on the list. 
I would love to have whatever it is you’re smoking, because I think there’s no more certain way to throw the election down the toilet than to have Hillary be the running mate. I’ve got to believe that Obama has at least enough sense to realize this, and will act accordingly.
So for all our sakes, I’m praying for your disappointment.
