We had a decade of the McCarthy Era (late 1940s to late 1950s). We’re into over half a decade of the Trump Era (starting with his presidency. I’d like to think it won’t last more than a decade). What playwrights /authors are lilkely to produce a play as significant as Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” that captures the times we’re witnessing? Has any play or novel already done so?
There were multiple people trying to be that Arthur Miller of the W Bush era and they all failed so I doubt it.
Anne Washburn, maybe?
We still haven’t found out who will be the next Joseph Welch of the trump era.
Trump was supposed to have had his Welch-like moment back in 2016.
Unfortunately it didn’t work out that way.
