Actually, that brings up an excellent point.
The question is “Are we not men?”
The *answer *is “We are Devo.”
It’s common–and understandabl–to impute a negation on that response. But there is no actual negation present. That is, saying “we are Devo” does not necessarily mean that “we are not men.”
In fact, the body of work seems to support the idea that we are both men and Devo. And pinheads. And monkeymen.
God made man, but He used a monkey to do it. We are men. And we are, and shall remain, Devo.

Yes, the whole world is coming apart and we are in danger of losing our humanity, just as it was during the 60’s, during WW2, during the great depression, during WW1, during the industrial revolution, during the civil war, during the Napolianic wars, during the reformation, during the fall of Rome and all those various floods, plagues and famines all the way back for the last million or so years when Og thought that everyone’s growing reliance of fire was making them soft and weak.
Change is the only constant in the human experience. Change is always unsettling and you always find people who say that this time will be different this time will be a too much. Every generation’s bridge too far becomes the next generations situation normal, who in turn will say that the changes of the generation after theirs will be the bridge too far.
So feel free to rant and stand athwart proclaiming that yours is the last generation of true humanity, just don’t pretend that you are doing or saying anything that hasn’t been said before, or that the time you live in is unique. To some extent you are right the generation that follows will be a different humanity from the one you are trying to defend, in some ways it may be worse and most ways it will probably be better, but it will be its own version of humanity just as deserving of the title as the one you fear is going away. If you can’t come to accept this than you have my pity.
It’s a good sign things are going better than ever when we have more leisure time and life expectancy to bitch about everything.
