Who will win the Heisman?

With all the BCS fuss, seems like the Heisman race is getting little attention.

Will it be a well known, high ranked school that produces the winner?

Or will an unranked school have the nation’s best player?

I’m thinking Dorsey if Miami runs the table again (and maybe even if they stumble once). Struggling against Rutgers though?? Yeeccch! Then again, McGhee could spilt the Miami vote and leave ot to Brown from CU or even Wallace.

Really a bad year for everyone though. You could pretty much draw from a hat as no one has been dominant enough to stake a claim for it.

This strikes me as another of those seasons in which there’s no clear-cut favorite. There are many good players, but no individual who’s putting up huge numbers, and no one who’s had a stellar game on national television.

In a season like that, the Heisman usually goes to the best player (typically the quarterback) on the team ranked #1 toward the end of balloting. Remember the year Gino Torretta won the Heisman? He wasn’t a great player by any means, but he was QB of the #1 Miami Hurricanes, and nobody could think of a substantially better candidate.

There’s still a chance SOMEBODY will have a spectacular game on national TV, and that somebody will immediately jump to the top of the list. (Sometimes ONE big game on national TV is all you need- ask Tim Brown). But if that doesn’t happen, I’d say Ken Dorsey will win the Heisman… assuming Miami stays undefeated. If the 'Canes lose a game down the stretch, it’s anybody’s guess.

Dark horse: IF Oklahoma is undefeated at year’s end, but Miami is not, voters may well remember Quentin Griffin’s 200+ yard game against Texas, and vote for Quentin Griffin.

I’m inclined to go with Quentin Griffin. I think jk1245 is correct about a split Miami vote occuring. I liked Kris Brown, but he has a lot of losses and not a lot of name recognition. I have a hard time seeing voters fully go for a freshman like Maurice Clarett. Seneca Wallace seems too flavor of the month and failed in his main big game performance. No one from Notre Dame, Georgia, NC State, FSU, Michigan, or Florida stands out.

Byron Leftwich is the possible dark horse, but that seems so unlikely. I guess I’ll stick with Griffin.
