As I’ve said, I knew it was over in 2016, just from the fact that Trump became president in the first place. I knew then there was no hope for this country. The US made Donald Trump, the pretend boss from a TV show, president. There was never any way to come back from that.
Once the Magas win the house and senate tomorrow, Trump is guaranteed to be president in 2024. They have already told us that they will make him president no matter what the voters say. That’s why he’s waiting until after the election to announce.
In a fair election Trump is a dangerous candidate who might win. But he won’t be a lock nor even the favorite over a decent Dem candidate.
It might not be a fair election, true. But if red state legislatures try to steal it after two years of Republican congressional malpractice, their work will be that much more difficult.
Fair elections are over after tomorrow, the Magas are saying that themselves.
They will blame minorities and undocumented workers and maybe drag queens when the gas prices don’t decrease for all the Maga monster truck owners.
It’s kind of strange to me that you think they will be held accountable for all the things they will fail to do when they are telling us they will put election deniers in position to decide the 2024 election.
I’m sorry but people with this mindset acting like this is just a normal midterm are going to be proved dead wrong. I actually see a lot of this mind set.
By the time the understand that they are dooming us it will be too late.
At least one Republican has taken himself out of the running — Senator Tom Cotton announced today he would not seek the Republican nomination for President. In case anyone had him in the pool.
30th January 1933 until 30th April 1945, that is 12 years and 3 months.
And in 2024 Alzheimer will win, as it (he?) will be on the ticket for both sides.
But didn’t more people vote for tanTrump in 2022 that in 2016? He is good at motivating people, both for and against him. He is divisive to an extreme degree. He is also very good at finding mean derisive nicknames for his oponents: Ron DeSanctimonius I read today twice. I must admit that is good.
Yes, they are being quite explicit that if they take control, there will never be another Democrat elected… ever. What they are saying is that in future, the votes will not matter. If their chosen (R) candidate does not win, this is de facto evidence of voter fraud, and the election Will Not Stand. They will install the preferred (R) candidate, no matter what. Heads we win, tails you lose.
But I wonder – who could Trump realistically annoint that doesn’t want to be his successor?
Maybe someone will say that the GOP is too sexist to nominate a woman for President, so Trump could safely pick Kari Lake for veep. But women lead right-wing parties elsewhere, so why not in the U.S.?
Well, that’s one candidate… and his campaign tried to clarify:
You don’t have to believe him. I’m not sure I do. I suspect it’s more likely that he meant that they lost last time because the election was rigged, and once that stops the Democrats won’t win. That would also be a stupid thing to say, but not quite the same as saying democracy will be overruled.
But thanks for the cite. It’s reasonable to interpret it the way you did.
I like your pre-Tuesday analysis, but it turns out the Democrats had quite an okay night…and DeSantis had a great night. Looking like Biden/DeSantis, wouldn’t you say?
Could depend on Trump, if he feels threatened (which he probably does). Then, as I’ve said before, it’ll be the practical test of where exactly Trump’s base appeal lies.
As votes rolled in from across the country Tuesday night, Donald Trump said something truly incredible when asked about how much credit or blame he should get for the election results.
“I think if they win, I should get all of the credit, and if they lose, I should not be blamed at all,” Trump told NewsNation, adding: “But it will probably be just the opposite.”
But they voted for Biden, not the conman showman, a smooth talker, someone who will promise them that they will get a pony and a circus.
And altho we do not know at this time what the final results of the Midterms were, it is very clear there was no Red Wave. The Democrats did a lot better than expected.
If Trump runs, and this looks like a near certitude, DeSantis is going to have a hard time of it. Not only will he have a knock-down, drag out, kick 'em in the nethers, primary to deal with, if he wins, Trump will claim that it was rigged by deepstate RINO’s, and a fairly sizable chunk of the party base is likely to believe him and punish DeSantis in the general.
No question this was a good night for De Santis and a bad one for Trump. The Republicans were mediocre almost everywhere except Florida where they won big. It will interesting to watch how Fox and the GOP punditocracy spin it, particularly Tucker Carlson. They may not attack Trump openly but just give De Santis an even higher profile and treat him like the presumed leader of the GOP.
It was also a good night for Biden and should put to rest any serious attempt to force him to stand down in 2024. On the flip side, De Santis will probably be a tougher opponent than Trump so anything that helps him doesn’t help Biden. Overall though I am guessing Biden is pretty happy. Fetterman’s win will also calm fears about Biden’s age/health.
IMHO it’s impossible to predict at this time. What the electorate wants WRT to the 2024 election is going to depend on how the country is doing in the summer and fall of 2024, which is too far away to predict.
