Who Would Be Interested in Being a Doper Book Fairy?

Sorry I am late Aries28 SDMB wouldn’t load last night.
Definately count me in.

Also you might try posting in Cafe Society as well. I wonder how many readers there would also be inclined to help?

I already promised a *Zoobooks * subscription but add me in. I can always grab a few more books as I look for Christmas for my reading kinfolk!

Have you seen KidsDiscover Magazine ? Its another really good one I subscribed to for my son. Its a bit over his head but my hubby and I like reading it:D Look for that coming your way for your classroom in November!

Aries28, add me to the list as well. You already sent me the contact info, but when it’s my turn give me a heads up. LIke the others, make sure a message says SDMB in the title.

Going to the big booksale for the library this weekend is going to be a lot more fun!

I would also love to help–if your class is covered, maybe another teacher could use the same sort of help? Either way, just let me know what you need, I could do at least one new book a month.

Count me in!

Okay, I’m heading out in about an hour and as I mentioned I’ll be mostly internetless for the next three days (I’m sure I’ll find the time to log on when I get home at night)

My plan is to contact each of you after I get my class assignment next week. I’ll probably also post another thread so anybody who might still want to participate can.

Thanks again! I am so excited to get my new class!

I’ll check the local thrift stores for kids books in good shape & send out a package when I can.

My e-mail is in my profile - put Book Fairy or SDMB in the title…

Bless your heart for taking on this incredible volunteer job!

Gah! I may have missed you, but if I could get your mailing address, I’ll go bid on some ebay stuff (like this lot of 6 American Girls books, use my paypal to pay for it and have it shipped directly to you.

If you see this, email me at shayna61 at yahoo dot com.

Another late poster signing in. My email is MKing49000@netscape.net

absomclutely! count me in!

giacomina821@yahoo.com

I’m holding my breath for the next 6 minutes to try to be the last (only) bidder on this lot of 19 NEW Goosebumps books. The shipper is a doll and has agreed to drastically cut the shipping and handling charges because these books will be for charity. (Three Cheers for camaswift!!!) Wish me luck.

WOO HOO! I won! 19 brand new Goosebumps books will be on their way to Aries shortly.

FYI, the seller dropped the shipping from $14.50 to $3.42 + $1.00 for handling. I threw in an extra $1.00 just in case she underestimated the shipping and because she was so nice to reduce it in the first place, I figure her time and trouble were at least worth that little extra.

I’m so excited!

I can do this. email me (it is in the profile). What about classics? Who doesn’t like a Nancy Drew mystery or a good Mark Twain, or …

Good work, Shayna!

I’m in – as others have said, mention SDMB in the message line when you email me, and a list would be helpful.

I’d be happy to adopt a particular kid for one book a month if that’s the way we’re going.

Count me in - my e-mail is in my profile. Just let me know what you’re looking for and I’ll hit the rummage sales for ya!

Definitely in (why didn’t I look at this thread earlier?)

An email address is in my profile.

I’m in, too.

You might want to think about the whole adopt-a-kid approach. It is bad enough for an adult to be “left on the couch” but for a kid it would be worse. Everyone means to follow through, but things happen.

Another idea I had after reading your original thread might be to have dopers send postcards from their town. You could plot them on a map of the world. I bet they would be thrilled to get mail from all over.

Hey, I’d love to be in on this. My email’s in my profile. Let me know what you need, so we aren’t all sending the same things. The Adopt-a-Kid thing sounds spiffy, but whatever works the best. I’m just having nightmares of 50 copies of the same Goosebumps book showing up. Give us assignments if you like.

Books are my favorite gifts to give.

I’m sure Aries will weigh in when she gets back about whether duplicates are a concern, but my guess is that it wouldn’t really matter. If they get more than one of the same book, that just means that more than one kid can take home that book if they want it. But for those who would rather try not to send duplicates, the Goosebumps titles being sent by me through the ebay auction are:

A Night In Terror Tower
Attack Of The Mutant
Ghost Beach
Go Eat Worms
Let’s Get Invisible
Monster Blood
Monster Blood III
My Hariest Adventure
Night Of The Living Dummy
Phantom Of The Auditorium
Return Of The Mummy
Say Cheese And Die
The Cuckoo Clock Of Doom
The Curse Of The Mummy’s Tomb
The Ghost Next Door
The Girls Who Cried Monster
The Scarecrow Walks At Midnight
Welcome To Camp Nightmare
Welcome To Dead House

MY nephew’s class did this. They posted a big map of the United States on the wall, and tried to get postcards from every state in the union. I went online and got the mailing addresses of all the state governors, and those of the territories as well. I wrote to all the territorial governors, plus a few of the others. Minnesota of course, and it might be cool to get mail from Jesse Ventura.(This was two years ago)

Shoot, with the Dopers they would need a *world * map!

Whooooooooooooooo HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Y’know brainfarts in the morning pay off. Who’da thunk it?

Anywhooo.

I scored a buttload of Sweet Valley Twins series today.

All of the above are ex-library books. Worn, but binding tight and very readable.

And

** The Phantom Toll Booth** Looks never read  **
and another book that is a mystery set in some far off place called Al-ber-ta, Canada. Looks like a canuck version of Frank and Joe Hardy. Dinosaurs and chinook winds involved. Couldnt resist.

Will be sent to you probably Thursday courtesy of media mail.
