if you had to go on a cross country car trip and could choose anyone who ever lived to keep you company, who would it be? remember, you will be driving non-stop for days(and the radio is broken)
maybe a model?
or a great thinker?
a writer?
a comedian?
a philosopher?
a religious leader?
a politician?
or if the radio is broken, maybe someone with a pretty singing voice
i might choose Mark Twain(before he got old angry and bitter)
maybe robin williams
but then again, i could listen to aretha franklin sing for a few thousand miles
I’d have to go with Laurie Anderson too… she has always been one of my major idols. I got to sit third row at a performance about 3 years ago :::::bliss:::::
Good choices, melanie.
Contenders for me:
Oscar Wilde
Janis Joplin
Hunter S. Thompson
Marilyn vos Savant
Dave Barry
Lilly Tomlin
John Prine
Roberta Flack
Jon Stewart
Margaret Cho
I have seen her on a few occasions also - I always realize by the end of the show that I have been sitting there weeping. Does she have that effect on you, Opal?
We’re taking his car; I gotta think he knows cars pretty well since he wrote for, Car & Driver and Automobile Magazine. He’s written some great road trip stories. Plus he’s from my hometown; I’d like to find out what Toledo was like in the early 60’s.
We’d grab the shotguns and leave a trail of duck carcasses scotch bottles, cigar butts from sea to shining sea.
“There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences.”

Although I do admire a few people, chances are they would end up being a disappointment if I were to drive across the country with them. Therefore, I’d go with someone I’m sure would be a blast.
I would do it in style, though (yes, I know, I’m cheating!) Rent a limo. Get a chauffeur. Get beer and other liquids. Make a left turn and pick Sue up. Go on “The Great North American Adventure: Two Lost Canucks.” Meet others on the way. Yeah, that sounds like fun.
Some drink at the fountain of knowledge…others just gargle.
