Oh, darn.
I saw your name on the players list, but wondered why I couldn’t assign you your character.
Any chance of loading Chrome onto your laptop or something?

No worries. I’ll be back on my desktop late Wednesday and on Roll20 Thursday. Will try to participate in the IC thread Wed.
This was / is the Character Rick Morannis portrayed, yes?
Hi Meeko.
No, his character was Louis Tully, an accountant, skills in number crunching and awkward conversation rather than driving and wrestling.
Lou’s got a Louisiana Cajun drawl, which it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out in text! (Even worse considering I’m right next door in Texas!:smack:)
You’ll want to come up with your own character; please do not try to base it on one from the movie (there was only one movie; Ghostbusters 2 never happened in this universe!) or the cartoon series. You can base it, roughly, on a character in another work, but it’s best to only take one or two ideas and flesh those out into an entirely new character of your own.
Thanks for your interest, hope to hear from you soon.
Hey, are you guys loking for another player? I may be able to join.
We may need you. Please turn on PM’s so we can PM you.
We sure are!
Please read all the requirements above. Including #4; you don’t have to actually FOLLOW #4, but it’s there so read it anyway! q;} (Turns out videoconferencing is a pain in the ass for various reasons; we don’t use it.)
Then, if you’d be so good as to post a character for us, we’ll send your resume’ right up to the top of the IN-box.
Current players:
Mahaloth: Kristopher, the Technician
Johnny Bravo: Gerald, the “Cool”
Lute Skywatcher: The Driver
If you’ve already got a character in mind, use that. If not, try to think of one whose abilities will complement the ones already hired; teamwork is important!
Thanks! I’m at work now, so I will be able to work on one once I get home. I have in mind an ‘Egon’ type character.
Good. We need someone into the science but with the brains to back it up.
Name: Brian “Prof” Jenkins, Phd
Brian, known as Prof to his friends, had tenure at the University of Toronto. He taught physics and history as his specialties.
Recently, he had become interested in ghosts and the paranormal after an odd experience with hsi mother. his dead mother. The more he researched the paranormal, the more he became sure that it did, in fact, exist.
Sharing this with colleagues made him the object of snickers and snide remarks. So much so, that he took a leave of absence to investigate ghost sightings and hopefully bring back proof to his doubting colleagues. he headed down to New York, believing that city was the nexus of paranormal activity.
His wife, Helen, remained at the university as a History teacher and remains a potential research contact (if the GM allows it)
He carries a Canon XLR with a modified lens, for the purpose of photographing a ghost in the act of, well, haunting.
Brains: 5
Muscles: 2
Moves: 3
Cool: 2
Talents:
Brains – Phd in Physics
Muscles: Climbing
Moves: Listen
Cool: Orate
Driving motivation: The truth is out there, and he is going to find it
**Let me know if the above is alright, or if I need to make changes.
BrianJ, that’s perfect! I can see you did your homework building this character!
Can I also assume you’ve read through the thread(s) and have a good idea what’s already going on in-game?
The one single issue I have with your character, and this is not a major problem, is the camera. The Canon XL series wasn’t created until the 21st century, or close to it:
Remember that the game is set in the year 1986; it’s highly unusual for your average person to be walking around with a quality video camera! But then again, Ghostbusters aren’t your average person!
As I recall, in 1986 video cameras were more like this: Big, Bulky, two-piece units with short battery life and prone to breaking. You had to carry half! of a VCR around with you to plug the camera into! My family had one similar to the one pictured, and even in 1989 it was still considered pretty cool to have it!
Like Gerald’s mobile phone, however, it fits your character and so therefore I’ll allow it. Keep in mind that, like his phone, it counts as one of your 3(three) items carried! We’ll just assume they put out a single-piece unit early in this universe; it’s still big, bulky, fragile, and expensive tho! I doubt it’ll ever come up (not a camera guy) but if the specific make becomes important, modifications may have to be made to the brand or model. Otherwise, go for it.
The other characters, as far as I can tell, are younger persons; mid-20s or so, I believe, although it hasn’t been specified. Your character, I presume, is older… are you thinking more 30-something, or more like 60-something years old? Also not ‘important’ but a story point to clarify.
All that being said, welcome to the team! I like your character and he’s a perfect fit, exactly what the group needs! Of course, you still have to impress J.T. Roth…
I’ve sent you a link to the Roll20 interface; once I get notification that you’ve joined, I’ll add your character information and assign you a token.
See you in the game!
I’ve actually got an roll20 account. Do I still need to use your link?
About the camera, I was picturing a regular still camera but video is better! I actually watched the movie last night (homework heh) and Dan Ackroyd’s character was using a video camera so I think it’s fine.
I’m picturing mid 30’s for age.
Howdy Brian.
You did need to use that link to get access to my particular game site. Then I needed to see your access, to ‘officially’ integrate your account into my game. I’ve done that; you can now see JOURNAL entries, move your icon, and such.
If you’ve already got a Roll20 account, you may know more about the system than I do! Basically all you need to know is how to use the die roller* INSIDE YOUR JOURNAL ENTRY *(as opposed to any of the others), how to move your icon around on a map sized properly for you, and how to take and leave EQUIPMENT cards. If you know all those things, then we’re good to go.
Mid-30s works; it’s your character after all! Please give us some physical description when you introduce yourself in the In-Character thread, helps us visualize him better.
About the camera: I just Googled “Canon XLR” and saw videocameras. Your call which you want to have; either one requires one EQUIPMENT slot.
You’re now officially invited to post In-Character; thanks for joining us. Hope you have fun! Feel free to ask any questions needed as you get used to our system.
I actually know nothing about Roll20. I jsut signed up yesterday. I did see the Ghostbusters info on there before work. I am at work now so can’t do much more.
Huh, I meant to type SLR. Oh well.
How do I post in green text?
Ok; I’ll try to catch you tonight around 7pm your time to show you the ropes on Roll20. Shouldn’t take long.
To post in color: above this typing box are icons; between the underline icon and the WebLink icons you’ll see a big underlined A. Clicking the little down-arrow next to that gives you the opportunity to pickwhatevercoloryoulike.
I use green to indicate GM-speak or out-of-character information in the In-Character thread; stuff like instructions and/or questions that don’t belong in the main story. Anything more than a sentence or so should be moved to the Out-Of-Character thread.
See ya tonight.
8 might be better, my wife might drag me out for a walk after dinner
Just a note that the roster is nearly full.
A maximum of two more players are invited to join the game; after that, your resume’ will be on file until someone drops out.
Particularly wanted are female players. We don’t have any yet (as far as I know) and it would be nice to have a balance for the team. Not to sound sexist but I know the female gamer population is smallish… but this is SDMB. There’s gotta be one or two of you out there!
So sign up today, and start Busting ghosts tomorrow!
Hi! I’m a female player. Found this thread from google. New to online forum roleplaying, but would love to give it a shot!
Welcome! **Phord Prephect **is the Gm and can help you get started, but I suggest in the mean time, read up on the rules and try creating a character!
Couldn’t have said it better myself!
Post her up and we’ll go from there.
