Might I ask what you were searching for when you found us? Just curiosity; SDMB isn’t, I would think, at the top of most RPG-playing lists.
I was searching specifically for Ghosbuster role playing forums. I was involved a couple years ago with a very loose role-play forum. It didn’t have a DM or anything. This one had the most recent posting date.
I have an idea for a character. I’ll post it when I get home later.
Figured since you have the brains, the cool guy and the driver, you needed a Ray Stantz “heart of the Ghostbusters” type character.
Elizabeth Mendler
Brains - 3
Muscle - 2
Moves - 3
Cool - 4
Liz is a plucky and animated 20 year-old New Yorker with a passion for life. Although her parents wanted her to do something practical with her life, she was always drawn to more artistic and off-beat outlets. She dropped out of nursing school a year into the program to pursue an acting career. When she saw that Ghostbusters was hiring, she figured it would be a way to make some quick cash and make her way into the lime-light.
She was more than a little skeptical at first about “real life” paranormal occurrences. She figured the Ghostbuster franchise was just some kind of scheme that she would be able to put her skills to good use. After her first bust, a whole new world opened up for Liz and she’s been studying up on the paranormal with enthusiasm. People may write her off for having her head in the clouds, but she’s very determined when she puts her mind to something.
Brains: Medicine - As a nursing school drop-out, Liz knows more than your average person about medicine.
Muscle: Break Things - She may not be the Bionic Woman, but don’t piss her off.
Moves: Disguise - Liz can use her theatre experience to disguise herself and her teammates when it’s needed. She uses make-up and costumes she’s “liberated” from the local stages.
Cool: Charm - She’s clever and uses her natural talents to get what she wants.
Motivation: Can’t decide between fame and serving humanity.
Hopefully, Phnord can find a way to have you worked into this chapter of the game. We could use the help!
Welcome to the board!
The obvious would be JT thinking she’s applying for the job of receptionist.
Very interesting! I can tell you’ve put quite a bit of thought into this character; I think she will fit in pretty well!
First thing, have you read the in-character threads? I know there’s an awful lot of stuff to read, but I think it’s worthwhile… especially as it has some info about how the game itself is played.
At a bare minimum, read up on the current thread, and get a feeling about what’s happening now.
Lou’s idea about JT thinking you’re applying for the receptionist position is one angle we could take. A straight-up I-wanna-be-a-ghostbuster angle also works just fine. If you have a third idea, we’ll take that into consideration too… she might even be a transfer from another franchise maybe?
My brain is a little burned out at the moment… I’ve literally (like 10 minutes ago) just finished running my D&D based game (for 6 hours today) and spent something like 8 hours as a player in someone else’s game last night, so I’m officially out of ideas for now. So I’m not gonna put you into the game immediately; let me think more about things before we write anything in stone.
However, that being said, I’m highly inclined to hiring you, and can’t think of any reason not to. Your character idea is very good and will fit in well, and I think we’ll all enjoy having another player around.
Let’s all take a day or two and think about this, make suggestions and such, then we’ll pick the best idea and bring you into the game that way.
Thanks for your interest, please keep in touch!
Perhaps when we get to the next floord(LaCoque), she could already be there investigating independently. We work with her and team up from there.
I like that idea. That’s initially how I thought Id introduce my character
I’ve had a little time to recharge my brain (ate dinner and watched a stupid movie) so I re-read your character description and the reactions from the other players. I very much like the backstory; disguise in particular looks like it could be fun to play with!
I, too, like the idea of you being a transfer from another team; how would you feel about that? We’ll drop you right in when they go up to the next floor…
Let me know when you’re done catching up, and we’ll see about getting you right into the action ASAP.
Reading through the new adventure right now. I’ll need a quick tutorial on how to work Roll20 and I skimmed over the “brownie points” section when I created my character earlier. I’ll have to go back and read up on that.
I wouldn’t mind being a transfer. I was toying with the idea of Liz possibly being Janine’s niece, but I thought it would be too campy and trope to have a relative. It’s up to you, but that would give her a reason to already be on another GB team.
Possible idea: Liz was going in for what she thought was a “consultation only” call for the main group (reason for her being alone), but she got caught up in the mystery of the place and decided to do more investigating to prove herself to her team.
I also like the idea of JT thinking Liz is there to be a secretary. It kind of goes along with part of her motivation. She’s definitely out to prove herself and show that this job isn’t just a boys’ club.
This should be the top of the second page, for those of us using the standard layout, so I’ll use this time to state:
The game is now officially full, once centerstage27 gets integrated. Feel free to apply to join, but know that until someone drops out, your resume will be put into a file for later.
Thank you all for your interest!
Name: Woody Bernard
Brains: 2 - Journalism
Muscles: 3 - Brawling
Moves: 3 - See
Cool: 4 - Fast Talk.
Motivation : Fame.
Woody’s ten years out of NYU with a Bachelor’s in journalism. He spent a decade toiling in obscurity at the New York Daily News, always hunting for the scoop that would make his career. When Venkmann’s outfit demonstrated the existence of supernatural life in their apocalyptic marshmallowy battle, he was chasing up an unrelated and ultimately fruitless story.
Even having missed the spectacular entrance, he’s convinced that ghost busting is the next best thing and his ticket to fame and fortune - and that joining a ghostbusting outfit is even better than reporting on them.
I see interesting things happening with this character. Not only could he speed up the research phase, as I’m sure he has contacts in the field, but his desire for fame and journalistic skills could combine with Brian’s need to prove his paranormality research’s value. And of course, there’s still the matter of the television commercial to be produced!
I’ve asked the other players to chime in here, but I think you’ll probably be joining us soon.
Sounds good to me! Welcome!
Yes, I’m fine with a journalist joining us.
Thanks guys, I’m looking forward to joining in. What do I do now? PM Phnord with my Roll20 account info so that he can invite me? Anything else?
Hi Fanganga.
I need to send you a link to the official roll20 game page. I’d also like to set up a few minutes to show you around the system; there isn’t much to learn but what there is, is important.
I’ll also need to give your character some information, probably through PMs, that he’ll have gathered by talking to JT Roth. Stuff for him to share with the party once he ‘arrives’ in the game.
Then it’s just a matter of integrating you into the game proper, and we’re good to go.
PS: I see you may be online as I write this. If so, send me a PM and I’ve got a little time to do the roll20 thing now, if you like.
