There’s no doubt about it, I’m stuck in a time warp. I was a teenager in the '80s and the music from back then still makes me stupidly happy. The Vice City soundtrack box set makes me delirious with joy.
I’ve always been a genre hopping whore, so all the other '80’s anthologies I own suffer from focusing on “types” of music. Vice City’s radio station format takes care of that problem quite handily. It’s got big names like Ozzy, Micheal Jackson, Blondie and Run DMC. It’s got big in their genre names like Telsa, Squeeze, Evelyn “Champaigne” King and Mongo Santamaria. Toto, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, The Whispers! I’m in '80s heaven! The only thing missing are the great talk radio stations from the game.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who goes gaga over this kind of stuff. What did you listen to in the '80’s?
I would have thought it, for one. Rockstar Games, especially in the GTA series have a damn good track record for… record tracks. I’m not kidding. Their in-house musicians are vastly talented, and they seem to pick quite lovely pre-existing music indeed. I love Wildstyle, how could anyone resist the lures of Herbie Hancock? Also, I’m trying to get the lyrics to the Trouble Funk song “Pump Me Up”, if anyone could help I’d be eternally grateful.
I was born in 85, so I can’t really answer your question by the way.
If anyone else is interested, the soundtrack also boasts Roxy Music, Talk Talk, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and a host of others. The spanish station is utterly flawless, too.
I guess I really am the only one who goes gaga over this stuff. I knew there was something wrong with me!
Me and you jkat, we are the last of a dying breed.
Does this mean that all you hear is Radio Gaga?
Darn, I miss AlTV.
I’ve been having the greatest fun driving around and grooving, and I’m not really all that surprised: It takes a fan to make a good boxed set.
Someone recently described me saying, “The way other people get excited about porn, you get excited about 80’s music.”
Yes, 80’s fans are out there. In fact, I love to karaoke 80’s tunes. My favorites are:
“Hungry Like the Wolf” (Duran Duran)
“New Sensantion” (INXS)
“Don’t You Forget About Me” (Simple Minds)
