Anyways, I just would like to say that I don’t care if the administartion here is somewhat imperfect at dealing with trolls. Much of what they do is to take care of us, so that those of us who come here enjoy ourselves and come back often. And at that task, they all seem to be highly proficient.
Our battle against ignorance is an offensive one, not a defensive one. Even if the forces of ignorance sometimes make an end run around us and mount an attack from the rear, it is but a small one and pathetic. We are wise to concentrate our efforts in other areas, knowing that at worst a petty annoyance will result.
This is a serious question. Ok, no public troll outings. That is fine. But, there are new trolls, those that there is no use to report to the mods, as they are just trolls, not the sock-puppet-revenant-trolls. Is it ok to post “DNFTT” on some idiot newbies post of “what words end in gry”?
Well, it’s also important to distinguish between people who are truly “trolls” and people who simply “act trollish”.
Those who are True Trolls should get the DNFTT, and that’s it. Those who simply “act trollish” get the majority of the flaming (like people who act like assholes, twits, morons, fools, or egotistical penis experts).
For example, there’s currently a Pit thread with my name in the title, and the whole thing is complete bullshit. In other words, trolling. I’ve decided not to bother posting in that thread, and I hope others continue to do the same.
Personally, I try to make the distinction between “troll” and “idiot”: a troll is one who posts with the specific intent to roil the waters and cause aggravation; an idiot is one who posts with no malice, but whose post roils the waters and causes aggravation. Your example of the “what words end in gry” poster is that of an idiot, and unless evidence comes up to show that said poster knew they were going to piss people off by posting such a thread, said poster should not be treated as a troll; rather, they should be treated as an idiot who didn’t bother to read the FAQ or lurk for a while before jumping in.
And all trolls, or suspicions of trolls, should be reported to the mods. I don’t care if it’s a small troll or big, new or old, whatever. If you see someone doing something trollish, report it to us so that we can decide what actions- if any- to take. We do our best, but we can’t be everywhere at once, so an e-mail saying “hey, check out poster x in thread y” makes things a lot easier on us.

Well, given the likes of you, I’d have to try pretty damn hard to not appear high-brow. After all, I’m not the one that abuses the Chicago Reader’s property by continuing to use it after having the privilege explicitly revoked by the Chicago Reader. Also, I have the courage to only post here with one user name ever, refusing to hide behind multiple identities like the spineless piece of vermin you are.
I dare you, if you really are a regular poster here, reveal yourself. You won’t do it because you lack the courage to back up your snivelling little remarks.

I think our latest brain surgeon here is referring to the fact that Parrot was actually never banned and still posts occasionally. Although a quick search only got me posts by users named Ma Parrot and Pa Parrot.

Some threads are created just be to be puppet shows. This is one of them. I’m reasonably sure the sane among us would have no issue with me closing this gem.
We’ve brought in the industrial strength Black Flag and the tungsten carbide puppet hammer Lynn ordered a while back just came in. If you notice that a inane sockpuppet post that was here yesterday isn’t here today, that’s just us doing some exterminating.
