I don’t think I can name any names without violating board policy. In light of recent threads, I would merely like to remind you all that feeding trolls and their socks only contributes to more posting from them and greater annoyance for the rest of us.
Thank you for your time. Report stuff to the mods; it’s what that little button’s there for.
I’m going to go ahead and guess that he’s inferring that myself and Andrew85 are the same, or that one of us is a sock of the other or whatever. Go ahead, say it - and get banned for doing so.
Exactly. And if it takes you more than 5 seconds to figure out for yourself who I’m talking about, you’re probably not one of the people I was talking to and I apologize for wasting your time.
Isn’t it hard work twisting words that way? Doesn’t seem worth the effort, if you ask me. Look, if you want to say something to me, just come right out and say it, instead of being a disingenous twat, k? Thanks.
No, the extra “k” is necessary to establish your coolness. See, when you need to respond to something with “ok,” it’s too much effort to move your fingers to both letters. So you just hit “kk.” kkthxbye means, “OK, thank you and good bye.” I mean, what’s a single “k” supposed to mean? That’s just silly.
Ugh. This is why I hate the “no calling people trolls” rule. At what point is an indirect implication of trolling an accuastion of trolling? I’ll say the OP is vague enough not to break the rules, but it is pretty close to the line and had he/she given specific links as examples it would have definitely been over the line.
Here’s my take on it on the trolling rule. A troll is someone who consistently posts false and/or inflammatory posts solely for the sake of getting a reaction. We don’t want people giving trolls any more attention than or getting into heated debates about whether poster X actually believes what he/she is posting. If you have evidence that someone is a troll, please forward it to the mods, either via email or by reporting a post. Do not accuse a specific poster of being a troll on the board.
However, many posters mistake idiots for trolls. Just because someone posts seem stupid or provoke a strong reaction doesn’t automatically mean that they are a troll. They may be sincere, but just stupid. Willful ignorance or excessive inflammatory posting past a certain point may lead to a banning, but it does not automatically constitute trolling. You may accuse poster X of starting a lot of attention getting threads and suggesting that nothing constructive can be gained from replying to them if he/she has demonstrated that they are immune to logic and reason. You may call poster X an idiot, or an attention whore, or a dickhead. Please don’t call them a troll, though, as that causes problems.
Sound sort of arbitrary? You’re not going to get an argument from me. However, we have to draw the line somewhere, and that’s where I think it is.
What does that mean for this thread? Simple. You may not give links or names of people you believe to be trolls according to my definition of troll. You may provide links/examples of people you believe to be idiots, hopeless, not worth one’s attention, etc. so long as you don’t call them trolls. If this ruling is found to be unclear or unworkable, we can fight about it and then I’ll probably change it. Let’s see how it goes.
