It is apparently ok to hate atheists, at least in this country. Just look at the reaction to the 9th circuit court’s ruling on the words “under god” in the pledge of allegiance.
You’re saying we should kill them because they’re a minority?? Everybody’s a minority, sir or madam. I take it you’re advocating wholesale genocide? After all, there are fewer humans than termites.
Wow, Procacious…your ideas are truly…ah–interesting…to say the least. I really wish that you would start a thread of your own to discuss your views, because I think many dopers would love to examine them more closely. I really don’t want to hijack this thread, so I’ll make my comments brief:
You views are quite extreme. First off–your willingness & comfortability with killing certain “undesirables”–making you the judge, jury & executioner–makes it seem as if you want to take the position of “God” in our society. What gives you, of all people, the right to stand in judgment of others? This “God-complex”, taken with your disregard & suppression of human emotion makes you seem quite sociopathic, in my opinion. And no doubt others, using your same guidelines, would say that sociopaths have no benefit to society, and therefore should be killed. And if you have any objection to your murder–too bad. You’ll be dead, so you really can’t complain, right?
What I am specifically saying is that if my goal is to make everyone happy, the way I can make the most people happy is to kill the minority that is making people unhappy. Obviously there are many different things that make people unhappy and trying to remove unhappiness entirely would require killing all humans. Thus, it is not a goal I would ever actually bother with. Instead, I pick a few small groups that seem to make people the most upset (child molesters, rapists, etc.). and remove them from society. In truth, I will not bother doing any of this as long as it is illegal. A law that says you cannot kill child molesters essentially tells me that people like the current system we have and that I should freely allow a child molester to molest whomever he wants until he is arrested and found guilty. It is the people’s society after all and if that is what they want, I will not stand in their way.
I believe that the decision to care about anything is arbitrary and so I admit that my position on this is purely an arbitrary one. Child molesters are a small group that seem to disturb the lives of a lot of people (as is shown by the fact that most people cannot even discuss the subject without becoming uncomfortable). As I pointed out in my previous paragraph, I will not be killing anyone as long as it is illegal because I do believe in the rights of the people to define their own society. People are not comfortable with child molesters being around to molest children, but also are not comfortable with me killing them. Thus, the people are doomed to be uncomfortable of their own free will. If this is what they want, I can respect their choice. I realize there is a system for dealing with child molesters, but prison does not change the mind of most child molesters and many return to their previous activities when they are released. Killing them would solve the problem.
I do not believe I have a god-complex as I admit I have no real power nor any right to alter society in the way I described. As long as the laws say I should not do something, I will not do it. I am as insignificant as all the other creatures of the world and I will one day be dead as well. I am not so much concerned with controlling the world as helping those that I perceive as needing help (and I admit that my perception can have flaws). If a child molester is causing a child trouble, I perceive the removal of said child molester from the life of the child as helping the child. Society appears to agree with me as they do choose to arrest and jail the child molester. This solution provides a temporary fix but its very flaw is in that it is temporary. My solution does not carry that flaw. And since the child molester will not be alive to suffer in prison, I feel my solution is more humane.
The value a murderous sociopath has in society depends on whom he is murdering. Those serial killers that killed prostitutes and/or homosexuals thought that they were doing the world a favor. It is my belief that if they had picked a group that was a little bit more hated (such as child molesters) society would not have judged them so harshly. I can easily see a serial killer that murdered a dozen child molesters after they were released from prison receiving a “not guilty” verdict from a jury. Prostitutes and homosexuals are not good target groups because they have too many fans. I selected child molesters for this thread because they are the group that I perceive as being the single most hated group of people in America.
As for my objecting to someone killing me, if there is one act I will never object to, it is my own death. If there is indeed no afterlife, then I am the only person in the world that is totally unaffected by my death (or at least that is the way my brain will perceive it due to its inability to function).
I am actually one of the safest people to be around simply due to the fact that I always follow the law and never lose my temper. As long as you never do anything that would allow me to legally kill you, your life is always safe from me (and in truth if someone attacked you I would kill them in your defense, assuming such force was necessary and legal). Having an emotionless golem around can be handy at times.
