Whom would you rather call for help: The Doctor or Thor?

Hang on…does this problem more resemble a nail, or a screw?

My uninformed prejudice:

Marvel Thor > The Doctor (as much as it pains me to say it) > Snorri Sturlsson’s Thor.

That scene made my short list of favourite all time movie scenes. Close second is the Hulk punching Thor out of the frame of the picture after he goes rampaging and is still all fired up.

Heh.

I would go for Doctor Who - he always gets the problem solved. Sure, Thor is better at smashing things, but he doesn’t have a lot of finesse or brainpower. Well, not the brainpower of Doctor Who.

That’s a rule, not the first one (according to Melody).

I’ll take my chances with The Doctor.

Thor. He gets help from friends. Doctor trips up over slow moving robotic trash cans.

Thor. Not the Marvel one, the real one. I mean the traditional one. I mean you know who the fuck I mean Skald, don’t play games with me, old man.

Tell him the alien chief rogered Sif behind his back and called him a big fat sissy, sit back and watch the immediate lightshow. Marvel’s Thor would ask for actually moral incentives to act and that takes some time to make up ; the various Doctors would need a visa from England which takes even longer.

Ah, but that’s a big plus of Thor : smashed technology to reverse-engineer, dead aliens to dissect in spades, clean-up jobs ! Juicy military contracts to make replicas of the alien ship when it’s decided the only way to be safe is to go and conquer *their *planet, eat *their *people ! Think of that, all of y’all resolve-things-pacifically hippies !

If screwing–James Bond.

Why would I want Sturluson’s version? Give me the original god over the euhemerized human version!

Thor. He almost got me twice, he got one of my friends, he almost got my college roommate, and he got my sister (fortunately Baldur the Beautiful told him to rein it in a bit and she only got a shock.) But I can verify on my own experience, when Thor is having a bad day, you don’t mess with him.

Marvel Thor. This really is his thing and he’s good at saving innocents. And I’m presuming we mean classic Thor and not Odin powered Thor or Rune Thor? The latter two were busting galaxies so an alien invasion would be an easy fix.

Thor can still stop time but he can no longer travel through time. He gave up that power back in Thor 147 I believe but can check (well before the excellent Celestial saga of the 370’s).

As an aside, current arc for Marvel Thor is top class.

Didn’t Thor “die” during the Fear Itself story line? I know that comic characters don’t stay dead for long, but its becoming a bit of a revolving door for Asgardians recently

Is the Doctor worthy of wielding the mighty hammer Mjlonir?

Thor, no question. I’d be worried the aliens would do what they should have done in nearly every episode of nu-who, and shoot The Doctor in the face while he is making one of his speeches. Marvel Thor can also get help from the Avengers, but even if he isn’t allowed to here, the warship is toast.

Bah! Is Thor worthy of wielding the mighty screwdriver Sonic?

Well, since I picked the Tenth Doctor, in your scenario I guess I inadvertently wound up picking the Eleventh Doctor.

I just prefer Matt Smith’s odd mixture of goofiness, brilliance, coldness, and warmth.

This a great description. Eleven is my favourite, so I would like him to rescue me. I suppose it’s not likely he’ll bring River along for the ride but a girl can dream.

… also if he could bring some lasagna that would be awesome.

The hell Marvel Thor would waste time asking for moral incentives. Comics-Thor loves humans; he considers himself humanity’s champion at least as much as Asgard’s. Possibly more. The second you describe the problem, he’ll be opening a space-warp and getting preparing to kick some ass.

River sometimes travels with the Doctor, just not ALL the time. I think she was leery of doing so “before” Demon’s Run (before in his timeline, that is) because she didn’t want to screw up her own past.

On the other hand, if River’s there you’ll have no more chance of attracting his amorous attention than you would have of attracting Thor’s if Sif comes with him.
