Whoo-hoo! South Carolina builds giant fetus memorial

Ohh… SpazCat, I think you’re missing the true performance art aspects of the plan – can’t you just see packets of “Newkirk Jerky” fetching high prices on eBay?

Oh, and just to be clear, in the personal account I linked to the woman didn’t die.

Oh absolutely.

(although they don’t like to be called “pro abortionists”…expect a reprimand any minute  )

I don’t think that that’s the argument being made here though (I could be wrong). Generally the argument is that large numbers of women died because of “back alley abortions”…who would not have died in office performed abortions.

I have yet to see facts that back that claim up…and indeed have seen quotes and facts from abortion providers to the contrary.

Like the McDonalds spilled coffee cup lawsuit legend, it seems like a story with a teeny bit of truth surrounded by a whole lot of falsehoods…to make political hay.

Thanks for acknowledging that.

FWIW, the Philadelphia Weekly (and other “alternative” newspapers like the Chicago Reader) would be “unbiased” in the sense that the “National Review” is ubiased. Whether that makes their reporting any less credible is up to the reader to decide.

Okay, okay, I hate the giant fetus idea as much as anybody, but in reference to this:

We’ve been observing Martin Luther King day for a few years now. USC gets out for it and everything. Laugh at the state all you want, but give some credit when it gets dragged into the Century of the Fruitbat, okay?

Of course, considering that the Century of the Fruitbat was last century, that ain’t saying a whole lot.

“Abortion Guy” sounds like the forgotten superhero. Wasn’t that Issue 32 of the original Uncanny X-Men?

Abortion Guy, lost son of Professor Xavier! Capable of using his PSI powers to convince women not to have abortions even beyond a legally mandated 200-yard buffer zone!

RickJay, don’t laugh: you might have just violated an intellectual property copyright.

According to that article, however, it hasn’t been a real state holiday: counties had the option of not observing it, and some didn’t.

For some reason, I am now imagining a cheesy horror film entitled “Attack Of The Six-Foot Fetus”.

Nancy Mitford had it right about Americans.
“Poor things, so mad, and sad and frightened.”
(BTW the WHO estimates 200 women worldwide die everyday because of botched illegal abortions.)

By the way, you can define the term “back alley abortion” in various ways - including abortions performed prior to legalization by licensed physicians, who were nonetheless hampered by the need for secrecy and lack of trained backup.

Here’s a classic from the bad old days. Ironically, this appears to be an anti-abortion rights site, but the facts of the case (via Milton Helpern’s book) are not in dispute.

I would point out that modern nutritionists have determined that simply blocking the intake of folic acid in the first 28 days can cause defects in the fetus which can cause spontaneous abortions. Restricting folic acid from the diet is used in conjunction with RU-486 today.

This brings up an interesting point: when abortions are illegal, one of the simplest ways to induce a “natural” abortion will be to simply change one’s diet.

Anyone want to guess how many short months it will be after abortions are made illegal before some poor girl gets put on trial for murder because she skipped the asparagus at the salad bar?

Here’s a couple of pictures of what it will likely look like.

So did I get whoooshed? Because that link from lieu went to a Festus site, not fetus. That’s not funny, man.

Sorry, we’ve already given out the Gratuitous Xenophobia Award for the day. Check back tomorrow and you could win a bronzed triple cheeseburger from Wendy’s and an autographed statuette of Donald Rumsfeld.

Yes, we all have a lot to learn from the enlightened, progressive abortion policy that exists in Ireland.

“Hey, nice shoes! Nubuck?”

“Nope, Newkirk.”

Well if she’s not gonna put her heart in it, does the effort really count?

Don’t tell the pro-life movement, but there’s a fortune to be made off Gummy® Fetuses.

Hmmm. I guess you think you just proved your sophisication and intelligence with that reference…yes, it truly does take great insight to take a divisive and complex debate that has polarized politics in some areas of America and shrug it off as a sign on how childish and ridiculous we are.

Congrats! You’re just so witty!

If I was so smugly assbrained, I might tear through some quotation books to find a similar comment about the Irish. But I’m afraid I don’t have the time nor the immaturity.

I just had a thought, if South Carolina does build this, will it “inspire” other states to do something similar? So, can we expect the state of Texas to erect a statue depicting the “horrors” of sodomy? Will Alabama put up a statue showing the dangers of freely available dildoes? And the list just goes on and on.
