“…What about the almost immediate claims that Bush had foreknowledge of the attacks?..”
Cite?
“…If those are legitimate discussions of national policy, I’ll give up my beer drinking. They were nothing but partisan hacks attempting to score points…”
The actions of a sitting President in times of crisis are most assuredly legitimate issues of national politics, as in, is this the sort of chap we want as commander-in-chief. I won’t hold you to that oath regarding beer, Unc. That would be cruel.
And your last post: are you suggesting that GeeDubya did not harvest as much political advantage as was available? Without a blush, you aver this?
One must note, as well, that challenged about a barrage of citeless bluster, you respond with another barrage of citeless bluster. Save that you refer us to democrats.com, a cite which we may be forgiven if we suspect you, yourself, have no faith in it.
I was appalled when I first heard that Bush used 9/11 images in a campaign ad, but they aren’t as bad as originally billed. The taste of using any imagery of such an event is definitely questionable.
I’m certainly not saying that the loss of life wasn’t an incredible tragedy. But the use of those deaths to demagogue the Republicans’ agenda to the voters is dishonor on top of death. That would seem to stack, so to speak, and therefore make the dishonor even worse.
This little tiny bit of 9/11 footage in the first ads was a test balloon. Bushco needs to know just how hard it can push the 9/11 angle without turning people off. Based on the response to the idea that he used anything at all, he’s going to have to be very careful with this. People are going to see excessive blathering about 9/11 for the pandering that it is.
Kerry might be able to turn this around, making the point that Republicans keep using 9/11 as a crutch for everything while he feels it is time to move forward.
BTW, the indispensable Talking Points Memo described the central theme of the ads as “it’s not my fault.” Does that cause anyone else to flash back to Dana Carvey’s speeches as Bush I back in the day? “Hurricane Hugo? Not my fault.”
Well, without a blush I can aver that I never said, nor even suggested, any such thing. Of course he made political hay of it - then and now. As did a host of other politicians. That’s what they do by their very nature - politicize things. What the fuck - it was a watershed event. The surprising thing would be if none of these bloodsucking leeches used it for personal gain. I’m merely saying that to point the finger at Bush for low shit like this, points the same finger at all these assholes; assholes are after all, the source of shit. The useless politicians are such a densely packed group, they’re near a singularity. You can’t identify a discrete particle in the singularity; can’t tell one from the other.
You wanna play cite and re-cite, head on over to GD - do a fucking search. This here forum’s chock fulla unsubstantiated allegations. On the other hand, when you insist on cites from your ideological opponents, that compels you to provide same. But what you seem to be saying is that you disapprove of the source I did provide because the authors are . . . unntruthful. Shocking, simply shocking, those partisan liars are.
And don’t forget that politicians are just as capable of pandering when not campaigning as they are while campaigning. Use of these forceful, emotional and tragic images for personal gain need not be linked to active electioneering to be repulsive.
That was just the thought I had when I saw one of the ads. In fact one seemed to steal shamlessly from Arnolds campaign for props 57 & 58 here in California. He campaigned on “I inherited this deficit, it’s not my fault, help me fix it” While this was true in the case of Arnold, I find myself wondering if that ad got approved at the last minute since those props won the day before.
How bout not acknowledging that the Econonmy is in full recovery mode.(including the plethora of economic indicators that will back this up)
That maybe the tax cuts have helped.
That the actual War and it`s casualties has gone better than originally thought.
That Edwards is really the best choice for them. That they spent too much time blasting the Pres and not enough time trying to figure out who could beat him in the next election.
Won`t admit that they themselves were also supporters of an aggressive effort to oust Saddam, but backed away when the war began. from here
Politics as normal and hypocrisy as normal. (both parties here)
Yes, the rate of job growth is not climbing as fast as everyone would like, but it is growing.
Jobs are the last thing to show up in a growing economy.
You will always be able to find a sour grape in the bunch.
Would you rather the economy still be in recession and the jobs a year or two away?
Uncommon, you need to look a little further. Job growth rate, even if you believe it, is well below even the historical average, slumps included. It’s been much later than in other recessions - this one officially ended in November, 2001, remember? Actual unemployment, including discouraged workers, continues to climb. This is the first administration since *Hoover’s * to have presided over a net *loss * of jobs. “Would you rather the economy still be in recession and the jobs a year or two away?”, you ask? That is the situation today.
Unc, that was one of the most graceful acknowledgments of being knowingly full of crap that this board has ever seen. You do have it in you, after all.
FWIW,
Greenspan thinks an upward pop in the job market will occur any month. As do many others.
Would you say that much/most of the job problem is the manufacturing sector, which we have given away to other countries?
Unfair (to the US worker) trade policies and stringent environmental control coupled with higher wages and taxes may have driven many of the manufacturing jobs away, never to return.
Some of the blame for the job losses the Dems have to shoulder.
Stricter environmental policies make manufacturing more costly.
Higher wages make compettition impossible.
Higher taxes on corporations likewise.
Lack of incentives (or what you like to call corporate welfare) for companies to remain in the US has dwindled.
We won`t ever hear the Dems bring these issues up, will we?
Ill await the form letter rebuttal. Ive already got it countered… :o
Youre exactly right. The voters will decide. I dont think they`ll want to tip the apple cart just yet.
If it werent for talk radio, Id only be getting the left side of any story. I read the left and hear the right and then my brain uses what common sense it has to decipher the glop. Maybe you should try it.
