This morning, my latest comment (for The Day after Tomorrow) was approved by the nice folks at IMDb. I rather enjoy doing them.
Some people just jot down a few sentences (“I thought it was c00l!” or “It bad.”), while others submit a full-length review worthy (in length if not in quality) of The New Yorker or The Washington Post. Personally, I aim for something in the middle, trying to be concise while not glossing over too much. The better informed the reader is, the better, but you don’t want them to lose interest, either.
So how many Comments do you guys have displayed on IMDb?
I’ve done it once and I’ve actually changed my mind since then about some of the stuff I said.
(As an amusing side note, a bit of that eventually found its way into the catalogue at the Harvard media library…at least, I was amused when the person putting the thing together contacted me…)
Most of my movie blab is reserved for the SDMB – I like the back-and-forth.
The only benefit to posting comments at the IMDB is you usually get the distinction of being the one with the best grammar, spelling, and grasp of narrative discourse.
Ain’t that the truth. And if you’re dum like me and leave your email address out there, you get some wacky emails. Countless times people have emailed me wanting to know specific things about particular movies; turned out they were given an assignment in school to watch the damn thing and couldn’t be bothered.
I’ve submitted about two dozen. Don’t want to link to any of them as it would compromise my precious SDMB anonymity.
I treat them pretty seriously. I don’t feel IMDB reviews are as ‘fleeting’ as posts here. Consequently I not only make sure to check spelling & grammer but that my reviews are well thought out and are ‘worth’ reading.
I rarely comment, and then it’s usually to return some shit to some people that act like assholes, “ur all stoopud if u like thsi movei”-types. Frankly, I think they deserve the occasional slap…
