Who's got a cold?

I’ve been fighting multiple colds since Christmas Eve.

I haven’t felt particularly sick, but it’s certainly become annoying by now.

Dab you, dab you, dab you. I doe sooder reply to this, den I wake up dis bording with a head full ob spoogy stuff and now my throat is getting that dasty sore feeling when I swallow, and I’m getting a headache dat usually means a feber.

You did this on burpose, didn’t you?

Coincidentally, I was going to start a weak, lame, Pit thread about Holiday colds and flus.* I take the week off between Christmas and New Years Day, and more often than not I wind up with some sort of nastiness. I think it is because we are all running on adrenaline until we crash. This year, I spent New Year’s Eve having an in-depth and personal conversation with Og on the porcelain phone (no alcohol was involved), and ran a fever on an off for the last few nights. I’m still dizzy and have a headache. To those declaring the soi-disant “War on Christmas”: I concede. Take the holidays, and good riddance, but only if you also agree to take these damn colds and viruses with you as well. Otherwise, leave chicken soup and keep the noise down.

  • I dunno, flu pluralized just looks gross; kinda like the symptomatic effluvia one anticipates when running a fever…

While I accept that you win, I nominate myself for the silver medal.

Early December 2003. I am done with my classes, but still have a couple finals. I start to feel bad during one of them (one the first day of five finals days), but chaulk it up to a cold. I have three more days till my last final. In those three days, it went from feeling a little bad, to full blown flu. I had a fever averaging 102, spiking to 105 one night. Vomiting for two of the days, not being able to move except to slide over on the bed to vomit into my trashcan. By the morning of my last final, I was in my recovery, but still by no means able to take a final…yet I did anyway. I might have been delirious from the fever, or the whole bottle of dayquil I chugged that morning, but I felt that going to the health center to get permission to take the final later was too much hassle, and that I’ll just take it now. Big mistake. That damn flu dropped my grade by a letter.

Oh, but the stories not done yet, no siree. I recover for another week (with some anti-virals from the health center) before going home for x-mas break. I have some fun, get some presents, ring in the new year by getting drunk. Head back to school about mid January. The last week of January I am once again sick. It was the same as before, just only lasting three days. Still had full body aches, chills, fever, vomiting, the works. Once that was done, I had about a day of just a slgiht cough and stuffed nose, then went right into pneumonia for two weeks. Since I alerady missed almost a week of class, I went to most of my classes while I has pneumonia. If there’s one thing that agrivated it, it’s walking over thirty minutes a day in extremely cold weather. I had professors kick me out of the classroom a few times because I was coughing so much. I think more than anything they didn’t want to catch it from me. :stuck_out_tongue:

I am not catching a cold.

I am not catching a cold!

I am not catching a cold!!!

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Didn’t work for you either did it?

This past Friday, I started getting that little tickle in my throat that means a cold is on it’s way. I figure I’ll be smart and try that Airborne stuff that everyone I know loves. So, all of Friday, I kind of maintain, and am feeling tired, but no worse for the wear.

Saturday, I wake up groggy, and feel like I have something stuck in my throat. Our friend that we were supposed to hang out with for New Year’s is sick, so the husband and I just stick around the house.

Sunday, the “something stuck in my throat” feeling is worse, and I take a glance in there. Horror of horrors! It’s a freakshow back there, I tell you. Then on Monday, I started running a fever in earnest.

So, that’s where I am now. My throat doesn’t hurt much, but I have no voice, I’m exhausted, and I can’t keep my fever down. I need rest, lots of fluids, and revenge on this stupid illness!

I’ve got Whooping Cough. I have no sympathy for any of you. :frowning:

I seem to have a very low-grade cold: occasional coughs, occasional sniffles, mild all-over achiness. In other words, it’s just bad enough for me to feel slightly run down, but not nearly bad enough to want to not go to my job.

I had a cold or flu the week after Christmas and didn’t feel better until New Year’s Day. It was mostly headaches and an all over blecchy feeling. But now I have an earache, I just hope it doesn’t turn into an infection.

Is it 1920 and no one told me?

Blah, I almost wish I had a cold. That would mean my sinuses are draining.
Clogged sinuses for two years and counting! I had an upper respitory infection a few weeks ago and I have asthma so it led to an asthma attack. My nose has been really dry so today I got my first nose bleed of my life. I’m not keen on getting one again.

I’m currently trying to see if denial will make the tickle in the back of my throat go away. I don’t have high hopes, since it hasn’t worked in the past, but there’s a first time for everything, right?

It doesn’t help that I know I’ve really only got myself to blame - I joined in on drinking champagne straight out of the bottle at midnight on New Year’s instead of doing the sensible thing and trying to track down a clean glass to drink out of.

Aha! This is your fault. You jinxed me!! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m home from work today hoping I can just rest this thing out …

Clogged left nostril for two weeks, and it’s nasty. I finally talked my doctor into anti-biotics on Tuesday.

For emergency clearance I smear a little Neosporin on my pinky and invade the offending nostril. Probably not a brilliant thing to do, but it drains my nose in under 5 minutes. I guess snot doesn’t like anti-bacterial salve. Hello, TMI.

No, you’re supposed to put the warning before the TMI! Sheesh!

I’m home sick from work today, too. I feel terrible but I also can’t speak above a whisper. My body’s first reaction to a cold/sore throat is apparently to shut down the speaking facilities. Weird, that.

Whooping cough immunizations apparently wear off in about 10 years. Who knew? It’s actually pretty common in high schools these days, although I don’t know where I managed to pick it up. The Chinese name for the disease is “100 days of coughing” and I think that is pretty accurate. :frowning:

I got a cold 2 weeks before Christmas, and I didn’t feel completely better until after New Year’s.

But in the last 2 days I’ve gotten some kind of sinus nonsense that’s giving me headaches and making me sleepy and cold.

Blasted!!!

I have a cold too.

And all my friends want to go out to the places that I love to eat.
Dammit.

Can’t taste a damn thing. It is like eating styrofoam.
