If I had to pick one I’d say Butters. Milhouse has his share of problems, but at least he has Bart as a friend, which keeps him at least partially grounded. I don’t think Butters really has any friends, save that “Simpsons did it!” kid.
Milhouse’s parents are divorced and his father is a loser. However, Butters’ mom tried to kill him, and his father had a lot of anonymous gay sex at bathhouses and movie theaters. Plus, Milhouse has never killed multiple people while attempting to tap-dance. Poor Butters is definitely more screwed-up. He might be my favorite character on South Park, though.
There’s just something so funny about seeing him tormented continuously. Something to do with his agreeable good nature. Like in the episode where the boys gave him liposuction.
Personally, I think Millhouse will be more screwed up because of their essential natures. Milhouse knows he’s a pathetic loser and strives to be more which torments him. He’s already bitter and will become more biter. Butters is just a placid, easy-going guy who’ll roll with the punches. No matter how awful the things ar that happen to him, he’ll just go back to his relatively sweet, untroubled self if he has the chance.
Totally. We’ve seen episodes of the Simpsons where Millhouse is bitter over his parents divorce and even flashes to the future where he’s a pathetic loser just like his dad. But everytime we first see Butters, he’s usually just happily puttering around in his room. Of course, I guess his Professor Chaos (I can’t remember if that’s the correct name) alter ego points to a possible troubled inner nature but I think Butters will be able to repress the horrible things that happen to him and live quite obliviously far better than Millhouse.
Probably Butters. Along with killing numerous people, he’s also got a Ninja star in his eye, and his parents tried to sell him to Paris Hilton. Millhouse has got nothing on them.
Let’s not forget, we’ve seen evidence that Milhouse is in therapy and is taking a lot of medication. I think he’s been in therapy since before his parents split up, but I’m not entirely sure about that.
He had been in therapy since before the ‘Sideshow Bob’s Last Gleaming’ episode. He was ranting about it in the airplane cockpit - just before he hit the eject button. FTR the episode aired in '95.
