Who's the Dems compromise candidate

I still don’t understand this attitude. Obama’s in the lead but he hasn’t won yet. Why should Clinton quit? Obama didn’t quit when Clinton was in the lead.

I assume Obama wants to be President just as much as Clinton does. And if that wasn’t true, what would it say about Obama? That he’s trying to take something from Clinton even though he doesn’t really want it?

I notice that all the Obama supporters who are claiming Obama has “won” aren’t calling on Mike Gravel to concede. I assume it’s because they know that Gravel, unlike Clinton, has no chance to retake the lead and get the nomination.

So here’s my plea to all Obama supporters. The rules were clear all along; you need 2024 delegates to be nominated. Nobody has that yet. So quit trying to change the rules and stop the race so your favorite can “win”. While you accuse the other side of being unfair.

Clinton was never in the lead. She had a head start on name recognition before the primary season began, but she lost Iowa and never made that delegate gap back up. She has been trailing him since the first caucus.

What are you suggesting? That we don’t count the superdelegates because they’re voting the wrong way? Like the Florida and Michigan non-primaries the rules were there for both candidates to see before the campaigns started.

The annoying thing is that we went through this in 2000 when a lot of people thought that having their candidate win was more important than following principles or laws.

Don’t count the superdelegates until they actually VOTE, maybe? Given that none of them is required to vote for who they were leaning toward or even endorsed.

Counting the superdelegates before the convention is equivalent to awarding pledged delegates based on how polls showed how a primary would go a month before the actual primary happened.

Edited to add: My point being that there ARE no superdelegate votes yet. Period. They haven’t voted yet, why would you count them for either candidate?

Hillary has been after this nomination for a long time. She probably wont get another chance. She will pull out all stops. Her 3 am call remark is a demonstration of how far she will go. The closer we get the harder she will play.

I’m not an Obama supporter per se, but I think Clinton should quit because that’s what’s best for the Democratic party, and I think right now it’s what’s best for the nation. If she continues to fight, that basically means she and Obama would be fighting over superdelegates, which means the nominee will not be selected until the end of August. They’ll spend the next 5 months attacking each other rather than attacking McCain. The attention of the press and the public will be focused on their attacks against each other.

As for why it should be Clinton who quits, the answer is simple: because she’s losing. Obama has a 5% lead in terms of the number of pledged delegates.

I don’t think anybody is being unfair*, and I don’t think the rules should be changed to force Clinton to quit. It’s just disappointing to see that she has put her personal interests ahead of her party’s.

*Except if the Florida and Michigan delegates were seated, in which case the Democratic party is being unfair to Obama.

Yes, but it’s only early March. The general election is still 8 months away. Just because the states went crazy and fucked up the traditional primary season (I hope we never see another primary schedule like this again), doesn’t change the fact that it is still very early in the presidential race.

If Hillary thinks she has a chance to win big in upcoming states, then I see no reason for her to drop out at this point.
