I third [Maureen Dowd](www.nndb.com/people/ 389/000032293/).
I think Chuck Palahniuk is quite attractive–an opinion that was borne out when I got to meet him on one of his book tours, though he didn’t look much like his online pictures: more of a sexy cool/nerdy college professor thing going on in person (truly sorry about the horrible camphone pic).
He gets my blood goin’…here’s his gorgeous self back in the day: http://www.achievement.org/autodoc/photocredit/achievers/irv0-004
I have agree (reluctantly) that Maureen Dowd is misnamed. She’s not dowdy, dammit.

Michael Chabon
Man, I thought this thread would have sunk like the Titanic by now
I wholeheartedly second John Irving and Neil Gaiman, and add–as a shoutout from CanLit–Naomi Klein, author of No Logo.
I picked up the wife’s copy of The Devil Wears Prada and found myself smitten with the picture of the author, Lauren Weisberger.
Then I guess I fifth this nomination.
Over-rated maybe -
but can I add Michael Crichton linky-link to yummy doctor type
and John Grisham cutie-pie lawyer type
My dad thinks J.K. Rowling is hot based on a photo very much like this one. I can see his point, although I’m not smitten.
I don’t think I’d ever seen a picture of Sarah Vowell before did a search for her just now, but she’s exactly like I pictured her.
I recently read a book called Dr. Tatiana’s Sex Advice to all Creation, about the sex lives of various animals, and I found the author, Olivia Judson quite sexy. (I thought this was apt, given the subject of her book.
Po Bronson. I haven’t read anything by him yet. I’d be far too distracted by the dust jacket
Oh, my, yum.
Best by far! Wow!
While we’re on female Indian authors, does anyone remember when Arundhati Roy (God of Small Things) made People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People list? That would have been 1998-2000 or so.
I agree with sjc’s dad – J. K. Rowling is quite attractive, just not in a “*Maxim * magazine covergirl” kind of way.
I finished Bergdorf Blondes last night and I found it amusing. She definitely writes chick lit but if you like Candace Bushnell or Sophie Kinsella you will probably like her.
Isn’t that Weird Al Yankovic?
I’m sure she’s lovely in real life
All the mentions of Maureen Dowd surprise me. I mean I think she’s attractive enough from the pictures linked (the only time I’ve seen what she looked like), but I’m surprised at how many people have chimed in to say they like her. Especially when we haven’t heard much about some of the other writer in this thread.
I’d like to third Jhumpa Lahiri.
I’d like to second Naomi Klein.
It’s so hard to pick just one picture of Arundhati Roy!
The funny thing is I really haven’t read anything by any of them even though I read quite a bit and I know people who have read them and thought they were great.
I read J.K. Rowling and Maureen Dowd, however.
If you like Sarah Vowell you really must rent or buy the Incredibles DVD. One of the extras is a piece by Sarah where she talks about herself, and what it was like to be the voice of Violet. She comes across as someone that would be really fun to hang out with.
Dowd’s pictures just get more exposure than those of the others listed in this thread. Many Dopers read the editorial pages of their papers, and Dowd’s editorials are carried by many newpapers nationwide.
