Anything with Bill Murray in it belongs to Bill Murray. Even The Blues Brothers.
This reminds me of an old SNL skit with Julia Louis-Dreyfuss. There was a fake talk show where all they talked about was “Ghostbusters” and the host asked the two girl guests who was their favorite Ghostbuster and one of them says “The black one.” And the other says disbelievingly “the black one? He was hardly in it!”
Yes, this thread made me think of that, too!
Definitely Ray Stantz for me (“The heart of the Ghostbusters, everybody!”). But, I did name my beage after Winston Zeddemore, so there’s that.

Egon.
“Print is dead.”
Egon, definitely. The scene where they’re investigating the library and he pokes a patron to determine whether he’s corporeal made it for me.
I vote for Egon. A lovable, all-knowing nerd who’s almost totally unflappable. His calm explanation of outrageous things always cracks me up. Favorite line: “It would be bad.”
As an aside, one of the reasons why I liked the new Ghostbusters better than the original is that, in the original, Egon was The Nerd. In the new one, they’re all nerds, just different kinds of nerds.
Are you kidding? It’s a prime reason he gets my vote.
Yeah, even Patty was a history nerd…
I think only in the SDMB would Egon be ahead in the poll, let alone by such a difference.
Have I mentioned how I love the SDMB lately?
Egon was the best.
I’d hang out with Ray - nice guy to a fault and always has a paragraph of cool and fascinating, yet crazy, paranormalbabble on hand. I was a Harold Ramis fan, though, and Egon was weirdly serious/funny. Kind of a toss-up, but Venkman was right when he called Ray, “The heart of the Ghostbusters.”
Random Ghosbusters (2) quote: “Everything you are doing is bad. I want you to know this.”
Janine doesn’t count? I love Annie Potts!
I can’t think about it without my choice being colored by other things the actors have been in and their real life personalities. So Venkman has to get my vote on the weight of me loving Murray in almost everything he’s done. Aykroyd is too much of a jerk IRL, and Ramis hasn’t been in front of the camera enough.
Ditto, but from the options available, I chose Peter. Possibly because I have his action figure. Possibly because he was making progress with Dana before Zuul showed up, and then was gentleman enough not to take Zuul up on the offer.
I’m glad to see Egon is winning. I like his super nerdiness,
or to quote Kamino Neko… he’s an uber-nerd, and it’s hilarious.
Mmmmmm, Annie Potts…
I’m in for Ray, partly because it seems that Dan really believes in this stuff.
I think Venkman was Bill Murray’s best role.
“Let’s split up.”
“Yeah, we can destroy more that way.”
Ray was my favorite character. He was, to me, the stereotypical engineer and I laughed a lot and still do at how close to real life he can be during the film. Don’t get me wrong, I loved all of them, but Ray is my favorite.
My favorite Venkman quote: “Whoa-ho-ho, good shootin’ there, Tex!”
