Really wish people would figure out it’s “believe the victims” regardless of gender. Heard decided to leave a recording of her intention to pursue what seemed to be specious claims of abuse citing that “nobody would believe” Depp and pretty sure I saw footage of the trial where she was declaring under oath that she had indeed hit and thrown things at him–sorry, but that’s abuse and it doesn’t require a penis to dish it out and a vagina to take it, being abused happens to all kinds of people. Happens in lesbian relationships, even, and if the standard is “believe all women” then WHICH woman are you supposed to believe then?
I’m just glad the whole fucking mess is done with.
Sounds to me like that’s a verdict an unbiased jury would return. It’s consistent with the evidence and they must have paid attention to Heard’s case. I really don’t think either one of them was defamed to the extent the jury did though. They defamed themselves far more by their own behavior.
Regardless of whether this verdict and award survive appeals, I think Depp will remain a huge winner here. Because his real case was in the court of public opinion, and the trial gave him a chance to present his case to the public, which absolutely lapped it up - this has been one of the most closely followed trials ever.
Having the jury find in his favor is icing on the cake and will solidify public sentiment which has already gone in his favor. Even if it’s later overturned on a some technicality, it won’t change that.
Agreed. But I think her abusing Depp is highly relevant to the OP of this thread, which is “Why all the hate against Amber Heard?” I think a lot of the hate has to do with the fact that Heard portrayed herself to the world as a victim of that violent guy Depp, while the evidence shows that she was at a minimum as violent as he was and likely a lot more violent. So there’s a strong backlash.
That seems like a weird verdict, at least at first glance. Apparently Depp was found liable for his lawyer calling Heard’s claims a hoax. But (even leaving aside whether Depp is liable for his lawyer’s statement), that sounds like what the jury itself found, in judging Heard liable to Depp.
I suppose there’s more to this, but here’s one link.
I’m repulsed by Johnny’s excessive lifestyle. I didn’t realize a person could drink and drug that heavily and still work. I guess raw talent overcomes all that booze.
The trial did convince me that Johnny wasn’t the abusive monster that Amber claimed. I’m sure his behavior was revolting. He and Amber were verbally abusive to each other. They are not people I’d want to know or even meet.
I think the jury came to the right decision. Johnny’s career will never be quite the same.
Amber gets a small win. The attorney should have been more careful with his words.
A remake of 12 Angry Men, with Johnny Depp playing all 12 jurors.
Judge Judy (obv) as the judge.
The Rock as court bailiff.
Amber Heard cameo as the stenographer.
The only reason I even REMOTELY care about the outcome is because I happened to be at that same courthouse, yesterday (jury duty). There were news vans parked outside on the off chance there might be Something To See (even though the case had just wrapped on the Friday, and the jury was just going to START deliberations that day).
When I left the courthouse, early in the afternoon, there were actually a number of what appeared to be groupies, relaxing on the lawn in folding chairs, hoping for a sight of something interesting. Get. A. Life.!!!
All in all, it sounds like the two principals are unpleasant people. I’ll ask to be taken off that Christmas card list also, please.
If Manson is correct in his accusation that Wood forged a letter from the FBI to give her case more credibility, I can only assume that, in addition to any charges she sees for the forgery or defamation, it can only hurt her case.
I only have a cursory understanding of the Manson/Wood case and don’t have any strong feelings on it one way or the other, but if he’s right, it’s not going to end well for her. Even if her accusations are true, even if she wins the case, if she forged a letter from the FBI, I assume there’s going to be some consequences for that.
I know a guy that swiped some (local) government letterhead and wrote letters of recommendation for his own business on it (so he could show it off to perspective clients). He wound up, IIRC, a bunch of fines and a few hundred hours of community service.
