Why am I interested?

I’ve always wondered: why are we interested in certain things? For example, one person likes blue and one likes red…why is that? Is it nature? Nurture? If so, why might two people with diffirent interests otherwise like the same color?

You seem to have left your “u” out of colour…

Most of us see in colour and our brains are very good at associating the input it receives with different types of emotions.

Certain colours are actually calming, designers of buildings such as hospitals will choose the interior colours based on how they will affect the individuals there.

I am really partial to green myself.

That makes much sense…is it permissible to widen the OP without making a new thread?

If so, what makes people interested in various things, period, not just color? Like clothing, or music?

I agree that a lot of colours are “calming” - almost all the places where people might be more nervous/worried tend to be pale yellows, blues and green, sometimes pinks. Think of any hospital or dentists office you’ve ever been in. Now think of a place like a bar, or arcade. You’re more likely to see bright, vivd colours, often reds, which are intended to “up” the energy of the people who are there.

I work in a chemistry lab, where too much energy can be a bad thing - our labs are blue and yellow.

I also think that people associate colour to certain events in their lives, the same way we do with taste or smells, or certain animals, etc. Basically anything in which there is a choice to “prefer”. If, for example, you became sick after eating chicken when you were young, you might be more likely to prefer other meats to chicken, even if it wasn’t a violently ill event, but enough to have stuck in your head (often without your awareness) that it was something you didnt “like”.
On the other hand, if you had a good experience with something, you’re more likely to prefer ti to something else.

Just my thoughts, but I’m pretty sure that they have some factual basis  Taste aversion is definitely something that is known to occur, and I imagine the same is true for aversion/preference to pretty much anything else.

I asked a question similar to this a while back, but It was specifically about ‘twinkly’ things like fireworks and fairy lights; I’ll see if I can find the thread.

I’ve often wondered if the “blue” I see could be the “red” someone else sees. What I’m saying is that what I see as a “red” apple would look “blue” to me if I saw it through someone elses eyes. This could help explain why some people like different colors than others. It could also be a bunch of crap. :o

This is a total hijack, but I think about that too. I’m convinced we all have the same favorite color, we just don’t know it. :stuck_out_tongue:
