why are bite sized candy bars called "fun size"

i don’t get it. what exactly is fun about one or two bites of candy?

We usually got them in school or an after-school program. Not from parents. So a school giving you candy is unusual and a great treat. So for me when Halloween or Easter rolled around and the teacher passed out those small candies I knew fun time was about to begin. Although that ended in 6th grade, sigh

I can answer this. See my sig.

“They’re just like regular candy bars, except… uh… fun.”

hmm…my first thread and i posted it in an inappropriate forum…it would appear that i have much to learn…

lol…that’s the response i thought i would get if i contacted the candy companies…

company spokesperson: “you see, they’re just like the standard sized versions, but fun!”

They’re called that so CF can have a great sig line!

BTW, Crunchy, I’ve been quoting your sig to all my RL friends.

If I had any RL friends, I’d quote Crunchy’s sig to them too!

Seriously, though, I think that little-size bar first was manufactured for Halloween. Then they realized people might like them (and buy them) at other times of the year. They couldn’t call them “snack size” because the regular size bars are supposed to be snackable, right? So “fun size” was a catchy alternative.

Not that I know this, of course. This is just how I figured it unfolded.

Because it’s much easier, and much more fun, to eat a whole bag of them in one sitting.

From just guessing I would assume that it was for marketing reasons. How could you not want something so “fun”?

Bite Size would have worked for me.

If it really WERE fun size, it would be two feet by 6 inches.

We’re talking about candy bars, Guin, not the dildo of your dreams.

Because they thought that “Inadequate Size” or “Puny Size” or “Diet Size” wouldn’t sell as many bags. Who can say no to FUN?

Alternate answer–Big Brother says that’s the fun size. Therefore it must be fun. Last week our chocolate ration was doubled to this new fun size…etc

I thought “fun sized” referred to the whole bag, not the little bars… ain’t nothing more fun than sitting on the couch, watching the Andy Griffith Show on TV Land, and eating 30 or so 1 1/2 inch Snickers bars.

Because all “fun” is short-lived and bad for your teeth.

I always thought that the full size Mars bars were the fun size ones.

Well thats what Marianne Faithful and the Rolling Stones told me;)

yeah…i can see how “inadequate size” would have tanked as a marketing gimmick…

Cuz “Pain In The Ass To Unwrap 30 Nuggets Of Nothing When You Are Hungry Just For A Decent Snack” wouldn’t fit on the itty bitty wrapper.

The only good “mini” is the peanut butter cup. Although the regular size is good, the little ones are the absolute perfect combination of chocolate and peanut butter. Which is why I don’t understand why all the holiday ones (trees, eggs, etc…) are even better.

[sub]Looking between my legs, I can assure you that Crunchy’s sig is true… At least I hope it is[/sub]

“Fun Size®” is a registered trademark of Mars, Incorporated. So I imagine there is a marketing part of it.

Also, Mars calls their really, really big bars “King Size.” If they called the big ones “Fun Size®,” then the small ones would be called “King Size,” which they certainly aren’t, unless you’re a king of insects or something.

Oh you!!! :stuck_out_tongue:
