Neither am I, but the vast majority of convicted felons are warehoused. The BLM movement wants to see funds go back to community supports instead of the mass infusion of funds to the prison system.

Sounds dumb to me. Public housing projects are crime-ridden, miserable places. Putting more money into them isn’t going to make them better places to live if the criminals are allowed to run rampant.

What part of “need for a new analysis” don’t you understand? The movement doesn’t want to go back to craptastic housing projects of old, but to keep pouring billions into warehousing criminals only helps to continue a cycle of criminal behavior and institutionalized racism.

That depends on how you define laissez-faire and how you define New Dealism. Does it count the parts of the New Deal that were struck down? The parts that went away after WWII? Does it count the Great Society? If you’re arguing that we’d be more prosperous without Medicare, Medicaid, and welfare…

Under no definition is Medicare “laissez-faire.” And welfare (AFDC/WIC) is gone. Stop talking like it still exists.

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders spoke at Liberty University, the conservative Christian institution founded by the Reverend Jerry Falwell, and he wasted no time in making it clear that on issues like abortion and same-sex marriage, they will always “disagree” — but that there’s one issue on which he believes they can find some common ground.

“Let me respectfully suggest that there are other issues out there that are of enormous consequence to our country and in fact to the entire world that maybe, just maybe, we do not disagree on,” he said. “Maybe, just maybe, we can try to work together in trying to resolve them.” The issue in question is one familiar to anyone following Sanders’ campaign — the concentration of wealth among “the top 1 percent of the 1 percent.”

“It would be hard to make the case that we are a just society or anything resembling a just society today,” he said. “In the United States of America today, there is massive injustice in terms of income and wealth inequality. Injustice is rampant.”

Many of these points were met with applause from the largely conservative audience during the speech itself — especially when he quoted directly from the Bible — but the relationship became a little strained during the question-and-answer session. One student asked about the Vermont senator’s statements about children being the most vulnerable members of society, and how he would reconcile that with the belief that “children in the womb need our protection even more.”

I noticed that, as the Salon article identifies them, the Christian Right at Liberty University actually allowed Bernie Sanders to exercise his free speech. Something that the BLM activists had refused to do.

Sure, and I still think Clinton started the ‘Obama is a Muslim’ thing. But I don’t have any evidence that she did, or that she’s at all involved in this.
